Learn from your mistakes and just use buses as a £1000 banger will put you in the same position again with repairs, tax etc.

Your partner may buy whatever they want, they may loan the car to you too, cant see any issue with that
If asked they/you may not want to say.........."it was bought FOR "the bankrupt party"..."
the main driver should be the V5 keeper/insured , it might be possible to have joint registered owners and 1 main, 1 2nd insured drivers too
