Yep, we've also got a hybrid fibre/copper drop cable coming across from the pole.

AFAIK they'll still be using some copper for the foreseeable future as there'll still be thousand and thousands who wont have optical fibre for their final connection
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • TalkTalk are reselling Openreach FTTP, but without the copper line, their offering is data only and currently no option for VOIP either.

Doesn't FTTP automatically give you the option of VOIP?

No way for me not to have the copper line unless OR want to rip it from the pole .
Mine is hybrid   optical drops to outside of house then inside to ONT .
Copper cable is joined at old connection point top of the house to old master socket connection .Thats for phone line  , not bothered looking at VOIP yet.

This thread has gone way off topic from the OP's question but hybrid fibre is BT's old  deployment method which is fast being replaced with Full Fibre installs because copper lines will soon no longer be supported across the whole country.

Early last year BT openreach announced their plans to change from their old analogue  PSTN/WLR services to a new Full Fibre IP network. Trials were initially conducted in Suffolk and Wiltshire and currently this changeover is now happening in 120 exchange areas to be completed this year.

Working directly with ISP's, BT have added more exchange areas to the list totaling 220, where the old non IP voice service will be unavailable from Jan 2022 with no going back.

As well as Full Fibre they will provide a 0.5Mbps FTTP service for customers requiring a voice only service.

They will likely first target areas which lack other Full Fibre providers like CityFibre, Hyperoptic, Virgin etc. but the future focus will be to allow ISP's to provide a fast fibre service with voice as an optional extra with many not using land lines for telephony.

To remain competitive all areas will be covered and BT does need to move fast due to the new Full Fibre providers that are rapidly gaining ground and taking their customers but obviously it won't happen to all exchange areas immediately..

Personally , I'd order a modern BT Nte5 master socket and wire it to the incoming pair .

BT will never know if they fitted it or not

    Simple job

Copper is still used to for the phone line. They install a shotgun type cable, fibre for the data and copper for voice.
Not in my house, at least not with KCOM. One fibre wire. Conventional phone socket comes off a port on the modem, phone effectively uses VoIP.

Whilst I have some knowledgeable folk posting on this thread, can I butt in?
Have the same problem as the OP only just have the cable, no box.
Years ago I mean back in the days of dial up stuff with AOL (that dialing tone still haunts me then it doesn't connect) that's for those old enough to remember 😁 Anyways I've just got a three strand grey cable coming into the house, the BT box went years ago, it got disconnected anyway when we had NTL stuff installed, now of course Virgin. This grey cable connects to the BT line from the pole across the road. I know they are installing new cabling over the last 2 weeks, the latest visit was 2 days ago they were putting new cables to the pole our cable connects to.
This cable pictured below is maybe as old as the house, built 1976. I'm thinking of going with Sky now who require a BT line, suppose this cable from the pole will need, or at least from the connection at the facia board box will need renewing? Hopefully Sky will charge a minimum amount to install and get my line active again if I switch to them from Virgin.

This discussion isn't about KCOM though, is it.
