Do you know what this is and whether it is worth keeping it?

I posted in another area but realise possibly it is better posting in this more general area.

Hello, this heating system is in the house that I am purchasing. It's been in place for over 30 years. The EPC for the house is rating C (71). I think it is some sort of baseboard heating but I am not certain. It is all over the house. It apparently has copper pipes. There is a combi boiler in place. I was told by the person who checked the boiler that I should remove the baseboard type thing and replace it with radiators. I am not convinced because the house has an EPC rating of C and is warm. The bills seem low (but it was a single elderly lady living there).

I guess my questions are whether anyone has seen this before and what are your views on how well they work? Should I reap them out or simply have them serviced? Are they likely to be less efficient than a radiator?

My questions would be what happens when that is trapped behind bookcases or other furniture heating away in a confined area (depends on your furniture) and also is there any way to control rooms individually?  As you might turn down radiators in one room and up in others?

  • You raise really valid concerns. There are separate controls for the living room and bedrooms. In terms of bookshelves, that won't be a problem for me but isn't this the same problem you would have with underfloor heating? Furniture on the floor would be an obstruction of some sort? Even the type of flooring might be a problem.

If they heat the house and the bills are reasonable then keep them.

  • @Groving There is nothing wrong with those "skirting board" type radiators. As you've already said "The bills seem low" and the EPC is "C". As @Hasbeen has said, if they heat the house and the bills are reasonable keep them. They will/should all have valves on them which you can adjust if need be. I'd suggest that the person who checked the boiler might have been after some work, and maybe looking for someone gullible.
If you find it doesn't suit your needs and costs, then get quotes from at least 3 different qualified installers.

@Groving just to add to my previous, you will also get a nicer distribution of heat around the room than you would with an individual conventional radiator especially in larger rooms.
