O/S Daily Wednesday 3 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, damp and colder than it has been. We had heavy rainfall for a while late last night but it stopped sometime during the night.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO lamb, LO yorkshires and I served mash, broc, peas and gravy with it. Tonight we'll be having lasagna and chips/salad.
Yesterday I got a few jobs done and some I hadn't really thought about, today my car is being collected to go for a service and MOT - hoping it's not going to be too expensive. I will potter about at home all day as they collect and return my car.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I think it might feel marginally milder this morning. Maybe that will help yesterday's snow to melt. We ended up with about 5" before it eventually stopped yesterday lunchtime. The roads were horrendous, especially the untreated side roads. The promised heavy rain afterwards didn't happen, just a bit of drizzly stuff.
I decided yesterday that I'd clean the window frames before starting on the glass. After one window I'd had enough! Today I plan on doing the same with the front window (big square bay) I shall definitely have had enough after doing that. This has now become my mantra but there is always tomorrow!
The vaccine appointments seem to be gathering speed on here. Good luck today GERS with your marathon trek. I was lucky, mine was done at the surgery about a mile and a half away. My BF and her DH were surprised to get a phone call from them late afternoon Sunday asking if they wanted to come immediately for their jabs. Quite a lot of people hadn't turned up and they didn't want the vaccine wasted. Why do people accept the appointment offered and then just not show up.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Thinking of RUBY and MARIE. Take care one and all stay safe x
RIP Sir Tom. A born and bred local hero who will never be forgotten.

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
I have been reading but yesterday wrote out the most fascinating post ever and then it refused to post at all so gave up. Only joking, my failed post was possibly one of the boringest ever.
Not much to post about but at least the days are starting to get a bit longer and I have a few crocus plants starting to flower. The daffodils are in bud but I think it will be a while before they actually bloom. I have a big tub by the front door but the squirrels have dug up half so that looks rather sad. In the back garden, they have just gone for the birdseed, ignoring the bulbs.
Hope everyone has a decent day with love to those of us who are struggling.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning folks. No snow here, yet. Plenty of rain. Thanks TA - I'm excited to get the vaccine. I've booked a taxi to take me there, it's only 14 miles but on public transport it's an hour and two buses. My earphones are charged and I've a new book to listen to in case there's a queue. My easy banana bread turned out rather well, maybe my baking 'fingers' are back in play. I'll do some more on Friday for the crossword buddies. It certainly helps having the DW, I'm such a wuss when it comes to washing dishes. 😀
One of DM's former students sent her an email asking about a short story which had been discussed during a tutorial at least 35 years ago, all he knew was that had barking dogs in it! She had no recollection but sat at the open doors of one bookcase, rooted through the contents and eventually found the rather battered and falling apart book. She's now re-reading the whole book very happily. It's good news about some years of primary school pupils going back at the end of the month. It's like watching a tight bud beginning to open up.Big virtual hugs to all, and a very happy Wednesday too.13 -
PS - sauerkraut is still haunting me. Thanks for the suggestion about Polish shops, I do have jars of ready made sauerkraut, I just felt as if I wanted to make some, it should be so easy and satisfying. I suppose if I had all the kit it would be. I'll explore it more later.12

Morning All
Horrible and drizzly out this morning with a stiff breeze, the bedding can go on the pulley when it's finished. My work clothes almost dried overnight so they are just airing off. Seems strange that my working week is finished, half term next week so almost 2 weeks until I go in again unless there's something planned for the in-service days.
Good luck getting to and from the vaccination station Gers, glad you have your baking mojo back.
Thinking of you all Ruby.
Must find some jobs to do today to keep me occupied. Happy Wednesday, take care. XX13 -
Good morning all and thanks to nmlc for the new thread.
It's amazing how much our lives have contracted and small events that were just part of our normal days are something to look forward to, Yesterday's telephone check up with Immunologist was really good, same Doc as last time who is really pleasant and easy to talk to, I will be offered the opportunity to take part in a trial to check if folk like me make any antibodies to the vaccine (it is thought unlikely). Because of where I live he was happy with me venturing out to the open air market and a couple of selected shops now and then (hands, face, space etc)
Received a Lakeland order for things I needed from hardware shop, anti-moth, new clothes de-bobbler etc, bird food due today (local shop not had sunflower seeds for several weeks), a new pair of Purple boots from Moshulo and rechargeable batteries for all the little fairy lights in the sitting room - even OH enjoys them now. Sainsbury shop due soon, 2 favourite so sub items OOS, but not essential for a week or 2.
Thinking of all of us who are struggling/just plodding along, surely this must pass - good news on the radio just about detecting antibodies in those who had Covid 19 and have recovered and justification for the longer gap between injections for many groups.
Edited - Just received text from GP now booked for vaccination next Tuesday - ridiculously excited! The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)12 -
Morning
lol Gers I have the same aversion to washing up and if something is not DW friendly it doesn't get used. Good luck with with vaccine
aod I raise you on the stakes of boring posts grief I even get bored writing them
TA well done on the window
So sad to hear about Captain Tom yesterday what an inspiration he was to so many people RIP lovely man
Good to hear all the vaccine stories. Still nothing from mums doctors yet which is frustrating.
Nothing exciting on the plan today ...oh if I had a pound for every time I've said that in the last year
Kitchen clean, fridge sort and if I have the energy a freezer tidy.
Have a good day all and special hugs to Ruby xx

Good morning all.
Quiet and dull here so far. Yesterday we walked over 4 miles around a local Country
Park and treated ourselves to a takeaway toasted sandwich and hot chocolate there for lunch. We couldn't walk all the way round the path as one corner was flooded so we had to turn round and walk all the way back! There's so much lying water here at the moment as the ground is saturated.
Today I have a Zoom music session with friends at 4pm but might spend this morning making a cake. DD is going to Costc* so I've given her a list of half a dozen things and then we'll have to find freezer space for some of them.
RIP Captain Tom. Last night, at our Zoom Morris meeting, we sang You'll Never Walk Alone in memory of him.
Happy Wednesday everyone13 -
Morning all.
A bit brighter here today. And that's the weather report.
I can't remember what I said I was going to do yesterday, but whatever it was, I didn't do it.
I'm making no predictions for today. Perhaps I'll surprise myself.
I promised myself that I would tidy one drawer or cupboard every day in Feb and I started very well on Monday. Yesterday I forgot until almost bedtime so I picked a drawer that is seldom used and quickly straightened up a few things in it. I must do better today.
I hope everyone has at least one nice thing happening today.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Hello all, after another night of heavy rain it's dry and bright. I can handle lots of rain if it only comes at night.Today Dad is coming over for the day so I'll be cooking a roast chicken lunch and our tea will be a selection of sandwiches followed by cream and jam doughnuts. The afternoon will consist of giving Dad a haircut so I'll have to get my trusty scissors out as I can't use the clippers on it at all. I did offer him some of my slides and a ribbon but funnily enough he refused my kind offer
His hair is like mine and grows at a rate of knots, but at least mine is not quite as curly. Phew! Thankfully I missed that extremely curly trait.
We've had the another meter reader here this morning, for the leccy this time. He was masked up and waited outside while we unearthed the meter, it's under the stairs and the hoover is in front of the door. In and out in about 1minute but I did open the windows and disinfect any door handles when he left.Right enough from the welsh waffler for today, another boring post, sorry.Take care all, stay safe and well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11
