Does a void life insurance policy need to be declared on car policy

I'm not sure if I'm over thinking this but earlier in the year I had a life insurance application knocked back. Basically I told my GP some stuff which I didn't think about when I was extremely unwell and this showed up on a report for life insurance and they refused to cover me. Does this now impact on my car insurance if they ask me if I've ever had insurance cancelled??

They refused to cover you, or they cancelled an existing policy?

Are you sure it was void? Sounds more like a decline to quote. Void is when you've been paying premiums and they then cancel the policy back to inception such that you never had cover.

Double check with the new motor insurer but generally speaking Life/Protection policies arent of interest of general insurers because unlike GI a lot of Protection policies are declined due to medical history etc.

Every time you fill in a comparison engine's website, you get quotes from a subset of their insurers. Some refuse to quote, because you don't fit their underwriting criteria.

If a life insurer declined to quote for you, because you didn't fit their underwriting criteria because of pre-existing conditions, that's no different to Saga refusing to quote for your car insurance because you're younger than they insure.

However... IF the life insurer found out information you hadn't declared, after the inception of the policy based on a false declaration, then - yes - you do need to declare that, should the precise wording of the question refer to "insurance" generally rather than "car insurance" specifically.

If in doubt, ASK the insurer. You won't get penalised for unnecessary extra information. You WILL get penalised for withholding necessary information. If you tell them and they decline to quote, then that HAS to be better than them finding out after the start of the policy and cancelling it...
  • They covered me and then asked for a GP report once they had this they cancelled the policy and refunded the premium so cancelled rather than refused to quote

Yes it was void. Once they had my GP report they cancelled it

I've only personal experience rather than professional experience of Life insurance. In my case GPs reports were required before cover was in place.

I would check with the life insurers on if they are cancelling it for not meeting underwriting criteria or for non-disclosure. Once you know for certain the reason for voiding the policy have a conversation with your motor insurer... generally long term insurance doesnt impact general insurance like Motor or Home but if its for non-disclosure it may.

Normally the question is have you had car insurance cancelled in which case the answer is no.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
