Hermes delivery from UK to Spain

Hi guys,

Got an issue with a parcel sent from UK to Spain where I am currently. This was sent on 14 Jan. The sender gave my UK number to them as this is the one I still use

Just been on to the live chat and they have told me that "we need a valid local contact number as drivers do not ring international ones" and "as there should be customs due to Brexit you might be contacted by them."

Gave them my Spanish number on live chat but wasn't aware of this at all

We have opened an enquiry which should be resolved soon but can anyone guide me as what the next steps are or what I can do about this?

TIA
Phil

You'll need to check the Spanish/EU rules for importing from a Non-EU country. Very likey there will be taxes levied.

  • Yes that's right. This was posted DDU (delivery duty unpaid). Anyone point me in the right direction of information as regards what happens next please?
  • You wait to be contacted by the courier. Two weeks is no time at all under the present circumstances.

Import taxes are by default the responsibility of the importer (recipient). Exact processes will inevitably vary by courier/country but typically the courier will pay the taxes for you and before delivering the parcel to you will contact you and ask you to pay them, in most places this will be what they've cleared plus an admin fee (UK is normally £10-£12 kind of range for most things). Once paid they then deliver.

Occasionally they do deliver first and ask for payment second. I believe in Germany they used to have couriers collect payment at the point of delivery but then at that time you could order things mail order/online and also pay the courier for the goods as card payments were much rarer at the time there (talking early 2000s), not sure how much its changed.
