Stuck with my career

I am from a financial background and went into teaching in higher and further education. I taught evening classes whilst working during the day in my main role.
Teaching is very enjoyable especially in further and higher education. I taught on the AAT at a college and as a distance learning tutor in financial qualifications. You should try some tutoring on the AAT and see how it goes. It always best to dip your toe in the water before you jump if you can.

You may want to take the personality test below. It may give you some insight into the best roles for you.
I have done this test several times and sometimes I come out as an Assertive Mediator and sometimes a Campaigner but always green.

Is it accountancy or the corporate / office world you have fallen out with?
Accountancy is about as broad a brush as it's possible to get - finance teams within businesses or consultant accountancy firms? In an accountancy firm do you want to do audit, insolvency, corporate finance, tax etc etc. Large firm, small firm, independent person? Personal or corporate advice? If you are bored of your current role then personally I'd look at what else is 'nearby' in the numbers world to see if that excites more as it's a shorter step / should be easier to do.
If it's corporate in general... that's a whole other ball park. I met someone years back when I was temping in a warehouse who dropped out of the rat race - he was probably late 30s, had been an IT consultant on big bucks / big stress in London. Quit and went to live on a canal boat with his wife and they got temp work in warehouses for 6 to 12 months at a time, then whenever they got itchy feet they floated off down the canal and moored up somewhere else. Obviously a massive change in income and lifestyle but they both seemed very happy.

Hi Donny,Donny7 said:I am so stuck with my career and I am not sure what steps to take next. I have been an accountant for 13 years, and i have no passion or motivation to continue with it. Was made redundant back in April 2021
Has anybody ever moved away from accountancy/finance/ Corporate career and pursued something else? Would be great to know your thoughts on what options I have.
There was a thread recently where someone was keen to change career and just do something different. Many differences in the detail of the scenario, but there could be some parts in here that give you some food-for-thought:

Many people see redundancy as an opportunity, so hopefully this will work out well for you. As others suggested, rather than chasing the corporate accountancy field, setting up your own practice and doing small business / individual accounts might be a soft route to a bigger change.
Good luck
