O/S Daily Tuesday 2 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Ruby - so sorry to hear your sad news, but hope you all are able to find some comfort in knowing from his phone call that your brother was at last comfortable and not in pain, thinking of you all, much love x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, air is cool, but it's not raining at the moment.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was HM chicken and mushroom pie, LO mash, veg and gravy - all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight will be LO roast lamb, re-heated in a pot of gravy - I'll probably peel some potatoes and cook them like a gratin in a dish with some milk and stock, there's some yorkshires left too so will do some broc with that too.
Yesterday I did get done what I wanted but still have some jobs to do - so will try to get those done today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday my day was a whirlwind of activity until about 4p.m. The even better news is that my appointment for the vaccine arrived, it for tomorrow afternoon. Mind you it's 14 miles away at NHS Louisa Jordan. Two buses and almost an hour each way, I'm taking a taxi there and bus it back. Driving is probably out of the question as the appointment is late enough for the journey back to be in rush hour and the dark.I took a fancy to make sauerkraut, did some research, ordered umpteen things from Amazon and then thought better of it and cancelled the lot. It all got rather expensive, I don't need six very lovely Weck jars, especially when seals and clips and weights all cost extra. There's a few jars hanging about DM's shelves so I'll use them instead. Can't bear bringing any more stuff into this place. 😇
Today will be quiet again. Just a few financial things to do before I'll go back to reading / listening / watching TV. I'm hoping for hear about a new laptop. My thoughts are with everyone here. Happy Tuesday to all.14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. Yet more snow overnight and forecast to fall heavily until mid afternoon. It looks so pretty but I hate the disruption it causes. DS said that in view of the forecast he was leaving his car overnight down near the by-pass, then he could trek down the ancient cobbled road this morning to pick it up and hopefully get to work ok. DD thankful that she isn't working today.
Another same old same old for me. I actually made a start on the windows yesterday and also cleaned the front door (hanging head in shame at the state of that!) so will carry on with the rest of the windows this morning.
That's the extent of my boring news for today. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies or p****d off. Thinking of RUBY and MARIE as always. Take care and stay safe folks xx

Morning All
The snow hasn't arrived thank goodness so should have a clear run to work. If it stays clear I'll call to see DD on the way home and take the little one for a walk in her lovely new fur boots!
Good news about your vaccination Gers.
Hope your travel goes smoothly dp1.
Hugs to you Ruby.
Not much happening here, seeds have arrived but it's too cold to think about planting them. I have a bare root climbing rose in a bucket of water in the laundry but the ground is too solid to plant it so hope it survives.
Hope your day goes the way you plan, take care. XX10 -
Morning all, it's dry now after last night's heavy rain, but still dark. I'm up early as I have a a sm delivery booked for this morning. Why did I listen to himself and book such an early one ? Only 3 subs, changing like for like but different flavours/scents, so that's no problem. I'm also expecting my first fruit box delivery, but that's an anytime, all day one.I'll have to clean the shopping etc and then sort out Dad's ready to go up, but I'll have to stay here unless the fruit box arrives earlyish, so Mr Fix It will have to put his delivery boy's hat on and fly solo.I watched a new film yesterday called Twist, which was an up to date slant on Oliver Twist. It was pretty good but I couldn't believe how like his father ( Jude Law ) was the actor who played Oliver, he was the spitting image !I have no plans for today house work wise, I'll just go with the flow, so that's probably s0d all, nothing new there thenGers glad you have an appointment, pity it's so far away and a pain to get there.Take care all, stay safe. Hugs to anyone in need.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently14

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.It's so cold here, snow is forecast, but we won't be out, there's a parcel coming, so we'll wait in for that.I do need to send a birthday card to Australia but it can wait till tomorow, there's another 6 weeks till the birthday and I send it via airmail.Glad you got your vaccination appt Gers, hope you'll be ok.I think ours are due by the end of this month. So you're cleaning windows TA - I'm really going to do the insides of ours today. I said this a month ago when the window cleaner was last here, and I did start, but didn't finish and the wardrobe doors definitely need cleaning. He's due today, but the weather has probably skewed his schedule. That's the only excitement I've got today. cleaning windows, I know you'll all be envious.Thinking of Ruby and Marie, also hope you are feeling better RosyRed, and anyone who is sad or poorly.Take care folks13

Morning
Hope you're OK RosyRed xx
Thinking of you RedRuby and meanmarie xx
Today I'm going on an adventure - I'm travelling about two miles to drop off my nephew's birthday present. He'll stay in the doorway and I'll stand in the garden. I'll be there for about five minutes. This feels like An Event so I might get dressed up, lol.
I also have the excitement of my shopping being delivered this afternoon. I haven't had such a busy day for months, lol. I'm actually trying to find things to do for the rest of the week, anyone need any jobs doing?!

Good morning everyone
It's not too cold here this morning, the back door is open for the dogs once they have had their breakfast and I might leave it open for a while to get some fresh air in. I have had a rotten nights sleep again so will try and catch up later.
I finished sewing up the frog prince yesterday and he looks very cute. I think my niece will love him. I am not sure what to do next so I am making some cards instead. Some of my new dies have arrived and I am having great fun using them.
I am going to attempt a chicken and dumpling stew later, I think it will be just right for the cold weather. I may make a cake or something for pudding as well. I am getting a bit tired of planning the meals to be honest. I think I will ask Steve to plan for the next week as it will shake things up a bit.
I believe it is actually the real Groundhog Day today so I will see if the film is on any of the Netflixy type things. And that will be my day, not exactly thrilling but we are all safe and warm so that's all that matters.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx13 -

Morning all. Grey and miserable looking. At least with it raiing it's pushed the temperature up to over 5 which is nice. I got a phone call yesterday to book a vaccine appointment, could I come that afternoon. Hell yes I can come that afternoon. So i trundled off to the place which had more organisers than you could shake a stick at, I think there were about ten in the car park, more indoors. All really well organised. The longest part was waiting in line. She said because I'd had the steroid injection I wouldn't make such a good antibody response but that I'd be totally covered when I get the second one. I'm just grateful for something over nothing.Today is more jigsaw, food thinking, probably chicken made somehow, possibly fajitas. We had some excitement with another stray cat turning up over the course of three days so I borrowed a scanner and discovered he lives quite locally, it was just he hasn't been neutered and is roaming. Spoke to the lady last night and it turns out he was originally a stray that she'd adopted last year but due to lockdown etc. Didn't see him again after I spoke to her so hopefully he's booked in to have his nobbles off as she put it. He's a really nice cat too, really friendly, just sat there looking confused when Fatty hissed at him. My sister and cousin ahd already adopted him in their heads. I'm glad he already had an owner
Saves a trip to the local cat rescue.
Ruby, thinking of you and your family. Gers, good news about the vaccine! Never tried sauerkraut, it's on my list of new tastes to try. TA, good luck with your windows. Between you and Scarlet, I'm feeling quite ashamed. It's not going to prompt me to try it though. Enjoy your stew dumpling, and your new dies. Hugs and stuff for anyone who wants them. And to readers along, stay safe and geta nice long stick to poke people away with...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13 -
Good morning, I'm up late this morning, everything looks soaking wet and drab, plants festooned with sparkly rain drops, there does seem to be some breaks in the cloud, not looked at the forecast yet.
Today I have my 6 monthly appointment with Immunology Prof, not sure which one I will get, it is by telephone again, it worked well last time. It is not until 3:40 so think I will do main meal for lunchtime, probably bacon and mushroom risotto and a side salad. The cake tin is nearly empty, although I eat very little of it I think I might do GF Stollen Bites, hopefully the marzipan (I have a packet lurking in the cupboard) will take OH's mind away from the slight dryness of the GF, at first the GF things I made were pretty dire, but I do have some great recipes now from generous GF recipe developers.
Some family members are recovering from Covid19, last heard they were improving well, not seen them for a long while they live a couple of hours away.
Sending thanks to nmlc for the new day and hugs to Ruby, Marie and RosyR. Have a good day all.
