He did and pointed out the faults.
The salesman agreed, in writing, to cover the repairs i.e. This being, repair of the windscreen chips and a polish of the bumper.
The garage are now  reneging  on windscreen cover as a repair is not suitable and replacement is expensive.

This is why I recommended looking for other damage. The paint and windscreen can be repaired. If you want to return it, you need something more substantial.
    Why?
As far as I can see, it's a simple breach of contract by the dealership concerned.
They agreed in writing to carry out the repairs and if they are refusing to do that, that should be more than enough of a reaon to return the car and get a full refund.

    Update:

Hello all, once again thank you for your messages.

The garage has responded with an offer to remediate the mentioned issues.
As I mentioned, the issues described by the salesman was the bumper required polishing and windscreen required filling however our local main dealership advised the bumper requires a respray and windscreen should be replaced.

So with that said, we’ve gone back to the salesman to describe how exactly will they remediate. We’re waiting for a response.

Will provide update again once salesman responds.

Please feel free to comment if we’re doing the right thing here?

Sounds like you're on the right track; presumably you'll be happy with a proper repair at their cost.
Then in future never drive the car away until everything is resolved :)

Yes totally agree. We have 2 little ones at home and had travelled 200 round trip to collect the car. Our thoughts were to reach home to be with the kids ASAP although they were cared for at home. As we purchased from a large German well known dealership and salesman advised what the issue was and they’d pay to fix it, we thought ok that’s fine. Maybe we would have considered twice had it been a smaller chain. Little did we know, even a good reputable dealer doesn’t keep their promises.

I still don't get why anyone drives 200 miles to buy a Merc/BMW/VAG vehicle that they haven't actually seen or tested? Unless something esoteric, they're not exactly rare. Half the hassle is that, even with minor faults, you have to return the vehicle to the dealer to get it fixed, unless they agree to it being done locally by a third party. If a more serious fault renders it undriveable, you have to pay for it to be towed.

Yes it was part of the Covid click and collect process. Images and personal video was provided prior to driving to the dealership. Of course these defects were not visible with the original content provided.

Presumably just a case of finding the car you like in stock at the time at a suitable price. On the face of it, it's only a 2 hour trip to collect the car which is no big deal if you're going to be keeping it for years.
The problem with Merc/BMW/Vag availability is that almost all of the stock is the poverty spec so the nicer stuff is a bit rarer.

I still wouldn't recommend it though as any issues are a pain to sort out. If it's part of a franchise or network you can often get the car delivered to a more local dealership to collect which takes a lot of the hassle out and is easily worth the £100ish they'd charge you for it.

Most websites do locations “as the crow files”, as opposed to the driving distance.  I’ve seen several cars where Auto Trader has said it’s less than 25 miles away - but the lack of river bridges means that it’s actually double the distance.

In terms of cost the bumper respray should be around £200 or so, not sure about windscreen but in relation to value of the car it's not like you're asking the earth to get that fixed.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
