Breathing space

I think they may well find that is not the case or there will be caveats or limits. Still we have not seen the fine details but I seriously doubt there is a way people can live rent free and not pay utilities, car leases indefinitely due to mental health concerns. There will not be enough debt advisors to enable these supposed "breathing spaces" in the first place. I suggest you wait and see. I absolutely believe btw that people in mental health difficulties should have support to help them with their finances but I do hope it is not open to being compromised.Robinhoody said:

My guess is that it would be treated like Sharples v Places for People and Godfrey v A2 Dominion but I really don't know the detail yet.Robinhoody said:
There is a lot of confusion about the 60 days delay, that is the first option with mental health crisis
Not set in stone yet though
you say the worst that could happen is 60 day delays but no the worst that could happen is the tenants qualify for breathing space and can not be evicted or have any enforcement for as long as the professional says they have the mental health crisis
I've bookmarked this thread and when I find out more about how it will work, I'll post here. I should be getting some training from someone at some point hopefully, as I'll be expected to be running the scheme in 3 months
there is is a lot of talk about huge numbers of people thinking they can lease a car and not have to pay for and it can’t be taken off you, live somewhere rent free and never be evicted and have all their debts written off. Never pay phone bills or utilities and never be cut off, get a new iPhone 12 contract and stop paying for it but they are not allowed to turn it off ALL AS LONG AS YOU ARE DECLARED MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS by a qualified professional.

citizens advice, step change and all the others will definitely need to take on more staff
they all work from home anyway they will need all need to work longer hours and overtime0 -
Just heard waiting lists for mental health appointments are six months long
this is going to delay the breathing space fallout0 -
I used to work within the mental health teams and still dip in and out as my job as safeguarding calls for it.
They will only hospitalize someone if they are a significant risk to themselves or others, we do have home treatment teams but these are crisis teams and work as a duty system and on call.
The waiting lists in Suffolk are currently between 4-6 months, this will likely need to be looked at as the guidelines state that even a case rag rated green requires a response within 20 weeks.
I recently was part of a social care discussion where this was discussed and the parent was looking to do this, the mental health practioner shot her down though and stated "well we need to look at if you can actually afford the monthly payments and paying a small amount of arrears on top, if you cant then we will have to support you to move".
I think this will be the stance for a a lot of people that yes you may have some breathing space on paying your arrears but you still need to make your regular monthly payments whilst a suitable pay plan is arranged.
