Linoleum flooring - advice needed

Hi,
we're looking to install new flooring in our bedroom. I would like to go with Linoleum flooring for a number of reasons (environmental but also for allergenic reasons). I need advice on which type to chose:
1) Glue-down
2) Click Lino
We currently have old carpet installed and below the carpet are the original floor boards with small gaps between each plank.
If we were to go for Click Lino, we'd just get an underlay for installation but if we want to go for glue-down, how would we go about preparing the floor?
Is one method better than the other? My husband put down click laminate previously very successfully, so I would have thought he'd be good at installing this.. I do prefer the colours available for glue down.
Also - brands I found were Forbo and Wineo - but it looks like no large retailer would supply and fit...?
Thank you for your help :)

Years ago we had Farbo marmoleum, supplied and fitted by John Lewis. It lasted well.

John Lewis don't seem to do linoleum of any sort, they just do Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) like Amtico or Karndean

I like LVT as it is warm underfoot and easy to clean and comes in a range of patterns and styles - has the OP considered LVT instead of Lino?

As above answers, Marmomleum is lovely, warm underfoot and some nice designs these days., this is adhered to the floor. Whether you fit this or Karndean etc, you will have to plywood the floor with 6mm ply, nailed 4" centres with ringnails, then featherfinish all plywood joints. Your floorlayer would prep it all correctly though tbh.

  • Thank you for all the answers - I didn't want to use LVT as they are not environmentally friendly and I am worried about their potential to slowly release toxins into the air. There is some worrying research and it is so difficult to find out which brand is safe and which one isn't. So I figured rather than spend hours on end trying to get hold of the manufacturer's ingredients, I'll just go with the safer option Linoleum.

Great choice, I've been fitting Mamoleum/Linoleum since I started my apprenticeship in 1979. Your fitter will tell you tho, whilst fitting, the warmer the better.
