Capital One missed payment

Hi there,
I was taken into hospital one Saturday and as a result forgot to make my monthly payment for my capital one credit card (I know that I should have a direct debit set up for this really but with this card I usually just make the payment manually on the day it is due). As soon as I realised this I made the payment and in the end it was just a matter of hours late.
I have been charged a late payment fee which is fair enough, the payment was late, but I am more concerned about this affecting my credit file. I have never missed a payment on anything in my entire financial history and this one was a matter of around 4 hours late, is there any way you think I could be given any leniency on this by Capital One or is it not even worth trying?
Thanks!

  • Call them, apologise, offer to set up a DD and ask them nicely to remove a late marker, if there is one.

But if they don't, it's not a major problem.
  • Having had previous dealings with capital one they are usually prepared to remove on late payment fee but not any markers, you may be fortunate and speak to someone helpful but they’re customer service is not particularly great.
