Speak to your current insurers as NCD is tied to the policyholder; some insurers are sympathetic and allow the NCD to be moved to the spouse in certain circumstances (though more typically on becoming a widow(er))

If it is just a choice to stop driving and not enforced then do it at renewal as its not that far away.

I'd have a word with the insurers now personally even if you decide to enact it later. You own insurers are much more likely to allow a switch of NCD than a new insurer would and so the advantage of doing it now means when you get to renewal the proof of NCD is now in the wife's name and so can be taken to any insurance company.

If they wont allow the switch to happen then you may as well leave the current setup to lapse and show the whole market with a 0 years NCD... most insurers automatically give an introductory discount to those with 0 years NCD as long as you are a low risk driver.

Thank you, ,that is helpful, we have full NCD, just age, nearly 90 and thought time to stop driving even though he is a good driver.  We are with Saga!  Thank you all for help, will have a word with them.  I (wife) almost 85, only do local driving now and of course like everyone else,  COVID 19 stops us going anywhere at present, except doctors etc., but do not want to sell the car just yet. Thanks again.

If you have been a named driver on the policy the insurer may be willing to allow part of the NCD allowance to be transferred.
