Solar Panel - 2012 installation
My partner and I are due to exchange on a house in February. The house is part of a deceased estate so information is a little difficult, but from what we have found, solar panels were installed on the property in 2012 by a company which has since gone out of business. The owner completed a form to her energy supplier but didn't send it back to them, meaning she hadn't formally registered for any FIT. This is really disappointing as I know the final deadlines for this were the beginning of last year. We have a copy of the completed form from the energy supplier at the time, but I'm going to guess that this isn't going to get us very far with trying to get it registered onto a tariff.
Upon our ownership - what are we able to do with excess energy created? Can we sign on to a more recent tariff or does it need to be a fresh installation for these?
Any advice would be great - thanks, Ali

You can apply to an energy supplier such as Octopus for what are known as Special Export Guarantee payments. The present Octopus SEG rate is 5.5p/kWh. You will probably need to provide certain documentation including a copy of the MCS Certificate. To claim SEG payments, Octopus will have to fit a smart meter. They will then apply for a second MPAN for that meter to cover outgoing electricity. If you search Octopus Agile Outgoing you will find more details of the Scheme. There is no standing charge applied to export tariffs.2
