Confusing calorie information on pack

I am trying to watch my calories to maintain my weight. I rely on the calorie information on the packet and also use Myfitnesspal to record them as I go along. A few times I have found the calories quoted on packets don't make a lot of sense. A good example today is Freshcure bacon from Aldi.
It is a 300g pack with 10 rashers. It quotes 2 rashers as 80 calories. I like 5 rashers which by my working out equals 200 calories. However it also says 100g  is 229 calories. If half a pack(5 rashers) is 200 calories how can a third of a pack(100g) be 229 calories. Or am I missing something here?

If 2 rashers weigh 35g then their product calorific content would be right (229 x 0.35).

Using the pack size, 5 rashers would weigh 150g so using the 100g info, that would be equivalent to 343 calories ; using the portion info, that would be equivalent to 342 (150/35) x 80 so whilst I can see your logic, I think the info is right

If you trying to seriously calculate your calorie intake rather than a rough estimate you need to weigh the food you eat to get a more accurate calorie content, the figures on the back for the 2 rashers is just an average but 2 rashers could weigh just 30g or could weigh 50g, if you treat them all as 2 rashers being exactly 35g you could end up way out on your daily intake (if you calculate all food this way).
  • i did weigh the five rashers just to see and they were exactly  150g. So my quandary was is it 200 calories(5x40 cal) or the half pack calorie quoted 343 calories. All confusing to me but no big deal! Maybe I’m just getting old

If those rashers weighed 150g then that is how you work out the calorie content.  Don't digress with half packs or rashers.  You calculate one or the other and weight is the most accurate for this instance.

The calorie content of one cooked rasher (17.5g) is 40 calories so yes, your five full rashers will equal about 200 calories.

100g is 5.7 cooked rashers but where does the 0.7 bit come from?
If it was all lean bacon then the calorie content of 100g might be 200 calories but if that 0.7 of a rasher is all fat, there might then be 250 calories in 100g so the figure of 229 calories per 100g can only ever be a very rough estimation.

This. The per 100g/per 2 rashers is cooked weight. So going by their average rasher weight, its 87.5g for your 5 slices.
    229 calories /100g * 87.5g = 200 calories.

Is this one of these things you see on social media where people argue over what the correct answer is, when all along it was the question that was incorrect (whether phrasing/presentation or information)?
