A lot of Cox's sold by Woolies proved to be Red Belle de Boskoop, and I encountered a couple who bought 2 each of 6 varieties at a supermarket to plant an orchard in a very isolated bungalow and got 12 Bramley's Seedling. No wonder they took years to fruit.
And there are loads of "Pink Lady" sold as the Pink Lady that are Discovery.
If and when things calm down, might be worth seeing if you can get it to an identification session although a lot of identifiers are older.
I keep telling myself to take some to RHS Wisley apple days, or Blackmoor's [I'm close to both], but never get around to it.
I sort of settled on Laxton's Epicure but never having one to taste against I can't be sure
One I will recommend is Champion, I bought mine in March 2015 from Lidl, reduced to £1.49 on the assumption at that price who cares?
It has turned out to live up to it's name and on a not too vigorous root stock it seems

That made I laugh.. I think my Bramley, which cropped well last year has only been in situ for 3 seasons, but I can't remember where I got it but definitely not a specialist grower.
I've not bought apple trees from them but been very happy with other products from the specialist Blackmoor Nurseries near Selborne in Hampshire: worth a look I'd say.
Agreed, I'm quite near them and normally click & collect, the only apple I bought from them was Pinova in 2019, it's in a pot and cropped well but TBH I can't say I'm too keen on the taste, and having checked the images on line just now I'm thinking it may not be Pinaova, mine is yellow
@Farway, tried to quote your post about Pinova several times but I would play ball.
Unless your fruit was grown in deep shade, that's not Pinova. Difficult to tell with the raindrops but the skin looks wrong as well.
Thanks, matches my thinking, however now you mention it, it could be down to shade as it is in a large pot & probably not getting the best of the sun behind runners & a plum
I'll drag the pot to a sunnier position for this year and give it another go, plus I'll thin out the fruitlets more than I did in 2020
I bought a Braeburn on dwarf earlier in the year by mail order for £15 is planted and seems to be holding it's own, I am not expecting buds for a few weeks yet though. If I had one complaint on the packing it would be that the roots were too tightly bound with clingfilm, som strands broke off when unwrapping it.
I noticed some decent looking trees in a B&M with a garden centre for £6 (I think, and an offer for two). I fancy a pear - I noticed they had Conference - but not really got any space. Would it do in a pot and, if so, what size?
Replies
One Conference pear, the rest apples inc Howgate Wonder, Golden Delicious and Cox. Couldn't reach the rest. @BB15
No price label, as ever.
