Back after a lovely holiday but quite a bit of money was spent. We have no regrets though as it was all saved up beforehand and nothing was put on credit. I'm really glad we went, most of the things I thought would be difficult were actually just inconvenient.
I've updated my signature and we owe just over £16 000 now so we've halved in since the beginning the year, although it was relatively low to start off with, we're also now more than mortgage neutral which is such lovely feeling.
The bit over is £9.37 so I'm going to go hunt in a moment for a £10 to overpay that and take it into the fifteens. I think I might have that or nearly that in PA so I could use that.
We're making huge effort this month not to buy extra groceries as we have loads in the cupboards and freezer, so only buying fruit and veg and dairy. We're also being good and not going out or eating out as much so we can build up a buffer in the current account again, I have had my second dental treatment for another £470 so that's knocked it back as well.
Finally we have to pay out another huge chunk in October for Christmas hols, I'll have over half of it in the holiday spends account but will have to juggle savings to cover it and then put it back in the following few months. Just hoping we'll actually be able to go...Mortgage Free 23 December 2020

Confession, I found my tenner but I've spent it, and a bit more. I've donated to the transport costs for someone to bring a stray kitten back from Corfu. I'll have to start looking again.Mortgage Free 23 December 2020

Yesterday afternoon we paid £12184.25 into our mortgage account thereby paying it off completely 5 years and 11 months early. We've been mortgage neutral since March and have been debating what we should do on and off since then. The rate rise was enough of a final push to make our decision. I know it was very small and on what we had left it would be a very small amount but it was more the final straw as we've been trapped in a post northern rock zombie mortgage forever and then this close to the end having to pay increased interest was just one more insult. We've shifted some savings around and still have three months' expenses in savings and we can build them up again quite quickly so we've bought ourselves the rest of the house as a joint Christmas present.Mortgage Free 23 December 2020
