Cancelling Sky TV subscription. Can I ask them to reverse decision if no retention offers made?

Hi
Hope I am posting in the correct forum. So basically my Sky bill has jumped from £50 to £90. (I only have TV package) I have been with Sky consistently for 21 years. It normally jumps up once I'm out of contract, but I do the usual haggling stuff and they usually bring it down to a level I am acceptable with. This time round though they have reduced to £72 but I'm still not happy with that. I gave the usual story about leaving, but the person I spoke with said that's the best they could do. I said i will get back to them. I would like to push further still and ask them to actually cancel so I can I see if they will contact me with a further discount (as I have seen they sometimes do reading other articles) however I would like to know if I ask them to cancel and they start the process, can I ask them to reverse it if I dont find a better offer with Virgin/alternative elsewhere? I am reluctant leave but it seems loyalty of 21 years is doing nothing for me, but at the same time I may not find a better offer?!
Bottom line is I don't want to cancel Sky Subcription then not have the option to return within the 31 days thus being left without anything at all.
Any advice here will be much appreciated -
Thank you

You can change your mind at any time to tell them you don't want to cancel but try one more time to see if they can do any better at the start of the call. Good luckmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.1 -
Discounts are not guaranteed. Even them making contact before your 31 days is not guaranteed. You may have to actually let it go before you get any contact. I left in July, and have heard absolutely nothing ever since.Check the market now and see what new customer offers are available elsewhere to try and bounce Sky off.1

I think the "free" channels still work even without a Sky contract so you won't be left with anything at all.
If your broadband is good you could look to see if Now TV works out better for you for the Sky channels, although I think it depends how much you use the Sport channels.0 -
Correct, you will get all the channels except the subscription ones (so the entire 'Freesat from Sky' channel line up). You will lose access to on-demand facilities and pre-recorded programmes though.
No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
... and, of course, you won't be able to make any new recordings either ie the HDD is effectively disabled.0

Why don't you try another angle - and use online chat.....saying that you are not happy with what is quoted and can they do better. After 21 years what can they do to better the price.....might help.
Our experience was other way round online quoted on thing and partner phoned and complained that price offered was not acceptable and why did Sky offer VIP offers and status to long standing customers when they did not reflect it when giving deals.
It worked and he stayed with Sky.0 -
I've just rang up sky to cancel TV, Broadband and phone contract because of the price increase. I couldn't even get to speak to anybody. I gave our postcode, and then they said because our contract ends in November we will not be able to cancel. Surely they can't do this0

i just tried them on sky chat, best they were prepared to offer isSky Signature at £19 a month
HD at £5
UHD at £0
Complete Sports at £22
Sky Cinema at £8
Sky Q Multiscreen at £15
Sky Broadband Superfast, including line rental, Pay As You Talk calls at £26
Which is £95 a month. I was paying £79 beforeThey weren't prepared to budge any further so i've had to cancel it - im hoping retention's will get in touch and offer me a better deal before cut off day.

If you are going to call their bluff, don't be surprised if they call yours. There are plenty of packages available for new customers, the trick is be prepared to be a new customer with someone else. I have done it a few times now, sometimes they will fight to keep you, other times not. Just be prepared to move on and then it matters not if they let you go.
