Seller agreed to break the chain and then changed their mind at exchange

At the end of the day it's none of your business. Moving house is stressful at the best of times. All of a sudden everything will click into place.Bryony84 said:There is definitely far more to this than we've been told but it's the lying and withholding information that really infuriates me.0 -
We've broken the chain. Over 70s couple, moved Shropshire to Wales temporarily, & hopefully back to Shropshire next week after 4 weeks in temp accomm.p00hsticks said:
Or perhaps, given that she's moving long distance, which would involve a change in GP's, she's concerned that if she moves now she's going to miss out on getting a two stage Covid vaccination ?numbercruncher8 said:Maybe given the pandemic the lady doesn't feel safe moving in with other people? Seems a bit irresponsible, assuming she is of shielding age. If you were not allowed to go over and see relatives for one day this Christmas, surely you are not allowed to move in with them and spend every night there.
If the change of mind is safety-based it may be very difficult to persuade them back.
Letters re COVID vaccinations are being sent by NHS England (& presumably Wales, Scotland etc), so change of GP isn't relevant to this. Ours arrived today dated 22nd, redirected from previous address. When you go online or phone to make appointment, you simply give a postcode - no tie up with GP registration - & are offered a list of centres, ranging from reasonably local to 50+ miles away.
Couldn't actually book ours as none of the 'local' ie within 30 miles centres have availability for the 2nd dose which has to be booked at the same time.
Apologies for taking off topic

Pretty sure it is our business when we are told they've agreed to a completion date and apparently booked removals despite apparently never intending to move on that date? I love your optimism but if the chain can't be transparent and honest then it's never going to work.Thrugelmir said:

That's house buying for you though.
It's anyone's right to change their mind and cancel as long as they do it before exchange. If there is collateral damage that isn't their problem. This may seem unfair but one day the same system may benefit you.
I think what was meant was that for whatever reason the lady chose to change her mind, she does not owe you an explanation, or even the truth. If it's purely down to changing mind to feeling unsafe, it'd be better to say nowt as that just leads to nagging from the chain and agents; vested interests would mean that people would be persuading her to keep to the original plan rather than seeing it fall apart.
Just gotta focus on things you can have some control over.... the chain could come together and put some resources together, offer some money as a cash incentive for someone to go into rented.

But they're entitled to change their mind, just like you are.Bryony84 said:

I'm in the middle of this and we've been promised that the top of the chain will go into rented but I'm not assuming they will. You're likely to let your buyers down as you won't break the chain, and so on. It's horrible. But you've got to do whats right for you now0 -
People are people. Everyone has their own agenda. I'm sure that you would reserve the right to change your mind if it suited you. Building chains relies on a mixture of trust , compromise and a sizable amount of patience.Bryony84 said:

The person at the top of the chain always annoys me, as is the case here. They are usually the ones who are cash rich, multiple properties and I have even know them to buy the bottom of the chain for the chain to progress. This is just me side commenting, but the FTB always is the driving force in my opinion if the top of chain is being arsy! Sorry no help.0
