Hi,
I'm currently with BG and my tariff expires the end of Feb.
I have been doing a few searches and can get cheaper else where. My concern is that the current electric meter has 2 rates on it. I used to be on the BG free electric on a Saturdays. So my meter still displays my Usage in 3 totals
Rate 1 overall total
Rate 2 actual usuage
Rate 3 the free Saturday rate which is stuck on 2470
My worry is that if I switch suppliers I could end up being over charged as my meter would cause problems.
I was planning on avoiding a smart meter only tariff this time, as I don't really want a engineer in my house due to the fact I'm currently shielding.

Does your bill still show the two different readings (rate 1 & rate 2), or does it just show rate 1? (Also to be clear, the three reading should be Total, Rate 1 & Rate 2. Rate 2 doesn't change and should no longer be used since the BG FreeTime tariff ended long ago.)
If not, I don't think it should be a problem. I know someone who was on the same BG tariff a few years ago but when that tariff ended, they stayed with BG but since then only rate 1 was used for their bill. They did have a smart meter at the time, but they've since switched, and continue just to use rate 1.1 -
Hi @mac.d thanks for the reply
My BG bill shows the two meter readings.
I did have a problem with my last bill in November as they decided to bill me on the grand total instead of the rate 1
I'm just concerned I'll end up having loads of hassle with a new supplier. But I don't fancy paying way over the odds for my energy either.0 -
I don't think there should be any problem, you're not on an E7 tariff or anything like that. You could try emailing a supplier with good customer service like Octopus and ask them if you were considering switching to them, how would that work as the second reading on your meter was only every used for an old BG free-time tariff. But plenty of people even switch from an E7 tariff, to a single-rate tariff if it works better financially for them (but need to ask supplier first). It's certainly not a reason to stay with BG if you can get cheaper elsewhere.

Thank you I will contact Octopus as that's who I was considering going with ..0
