I hope someone will know. A friend lives in a housing association property secure tenancy. She has been left a property very old house that needs a lot of work . Does my friend have to leave her home , she spoke to someone from shelter and they said she can still remain in her home. She is afraid that she will be forced out before she managed to do any work on the house. Long-term she hopes to give up her tenancy but things it might take a year to sort out the house due to finances and the amount of work needed.

You've got no obligation to move into a house just because you've inherited it.1

Thank you, hopefully that will stop her panicking. She is a single mum so no extra money to do the house quickly. She works but obviously money is tight She was afraid that she wouldn't be allowed to own a property whilst living in social housing. Thank you ,0

I doubt that anyone would be allocated social housing if they owned another property.
But she was already a tenant when you she become the owner of another property, I can't imagine that's grounds for eviction.

There is no problem living in social housing and subsequently owning a house.
People don't get social housing if they own at the time unless there is very extreme circumstances like judge ruling or protection concerns (i.e. someone has been moved for their safety)1
