Transfer of a property to a family member, without a solicitor.

I've heard it's relatively straightforward to transfer an unmortgaged property to a family member, without the use of a solicitor. (There was a similar thread about this on the MSE discussion board, though from 2008, so it might be a bit out of date at this point!)
It seems that all that is required is filling in TR1, AP1, and ID1 forms for the Land Registry?
If anyone has had any recent experience of this, or has any hints or tips, would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Correct.
Don't forget about possible SDLT and CGT liability as well.0 -
I did a transfer of a property 5 years ago (probate) without the use of a solicitor. Process was fairly painless but complicated by having to do a compulsory first registration. The LT help line are (were) very good at answering questions about the forms & process, but can not offer legal guidance for obvious reasons.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
There's guidance online:No SDLT if there's no 'consideration' (cash) paid and no mortgage:If the property is your main residence, there's noCapital Gains Tax.If not main residence, CGT may be due (unless gifted to spouse), and must be delared and paid within 30 days.
