Got one of these to get points on our Waitrose shop / JL stuff. I'm aware they're part of HSBC or whatever but just wondering what they're like, in general regards limit increases?
The limit, whilst fine for the needs of usage, is one of the lowest (£5k) and just wondered how increases are handled?

As in when I click into increase it, I'm met with a screen asking me to what limit and a submit button. The notes suggest they'll "get back to me" once I click submit. So it is not a live system that'll show you an upper limit / option to auto increase or are increases manually done when requested?
Just wondering from others who hold this card, and successfully / unsuccessfully tried to increase their limit.
** I know I don't want or need an increase but I'd like to know. Hence I've not tried it as it's not something I need right now.

If you don't want or need an increase, why would you apply for one?
Do you just want to show off your massive credit limit or something?0 -

(because maybe I want to spend more than the limit one day... I've not said, so pointless presuming)!

In any credit application you have to show the provider that you have the means to pay the debt accrued. Be that for a new card application or a request to increase your credit limit.
In your own mind can your earnings and assets support a higher credit limit utilised to the full?0 -

An internet forum of random/anonymous people who can't see your credit file, and have no idea about your earnings/debt/financial position as well as the JL scoring process is unlikely to be able to tell you with any accuracy whether JL will increase your limit and how much the increase (if they agree it) might be.
I'll jog on now.

I have never asked for an increase but they have also never offered one either - in well over a decade of holding the card. Limit is middling compared to my others.

You then thought you'd act clever and got called out for it. My issue was with your smart remark about the low limit (that you think is high)!0 -

I'm not needing a 0% deal or anything which most my cards offer.I'm specifically looking for the best freebie based on that spend so thought I'd consider John Lewis over Amazon.0 -

TBH I think it was your attitude that was called out, and the question is also a bit pointless as other people's experience has zero influence over your own success or not.
I asked why you were bothering applying as you yourself said you didn't want/need an increase - therefore one could presume (perhaps erroneously) you're one of those people who likes to willy wave their credit limits. As is hopefully obvious, high credit limits aren't cash in the bank, rather if fully utilised they're potentially life ruining debt - there are plenty of threads on MSE about the trouble people have got into as a result of utilised high limits, and unanticipated changes in circumstance.
In anycase, you'll only actually find out whether you're eligible and what you'll get, by pressing the submit button - anything else is just speculation.
Have a great day.0
