Advice please, A friend has a default on credit file mail order, just under £1500, now settled. Parent had persuaded young person to open an account due to their own poor credit . Young person naive and trusting of parent. Payment was being taken from parents bank account and parent was down as point of contact. Young Person was not aware debt was not being paid as chasing of debt was directed to parent. Lender aware it was parent they were chasing and not contacting person whose name debt was in. Young person not aware of issues until after default issued so settled the debt and has since learned a lesson. Can young person get copy of default notice to see who it was issued to as he never received it - wondering if went to parent and/ or she hid it Where does he stand regarding parent being notified and not him? Are there any grounds to ask for it to be removed as he wasn’t aware of missed payments due to them chasing parent who was hiding the situation from him? I know it’s probably is going to have to go down as a lesson but 6 years on a credit file makes it a long lesson. Any way impact can be minimised? Young person wanting to get mortgage sooner rather than later with partner who has excellent credit rating and good deposit...thank you for reading

If account is in young person's name, then young person is correct to have the default against them. Even if young person didn't receive notice of default, they can send young person a copy if required.
Young person needs to focus on building good history going forward and let time do the rest. Make sure young person retains control of all future accounts.0 -
Default notices are not required to mark an account as defauted with the CRA's.
Regardless of whether a default notice was issued or not, it's not an avenue to pursue in order to get the default removed.0 -
If account belonged to young person, how can bank 'point of contact' be the parent? The bank would only discuss with parent if authorised by young person. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
