Thanks pmlindyloo. That does indeed seem to cover it. HB is not something questions often arise about and I don't know my way around it as well as some other benefits and I missed that paragraph when I looked at it earlier.
It's possible that questions would arise if the repair period appears unreasonably long relative to the nature of the repairs required.

Out of interest i have just compared benefit entitlement under legacy benefits and UC for claimant. Help with rent will be the same amount under HB and UC so I have ignored that.
ESA Support Group plus SDP = £197.60/week
UC with LCWRA and SDP transition element = £871.81/month which is equivalent to £201.17/week
Although the amounts are, to all intents, the same the difference is that over time the SDP transition element in UC will be eroded if any other elements increase. Over time therefore the UC award is likely to become worth less than an ongoing ESA award.
If there was no SDP involved UC would pay more than ESA.

  • Most plumbers can fit a complete central heating system in 2 or 3 days so what all this nonsense about vacating  for months for 'boiler repairs' is about is beyond me. If the boiler has exploded it's past any repair, a new one can be fitted in a day. Are you sure the landlord doesn't just want your mate out so he can rent to someone else?
