Utility Point still in business?

Options
Anybody have any ideas whether Utility Point are still trading? I initiated s switch on the 26/12/2020 and the switchover date was the 16/1/2021. Direct Debit has been taken but I have not been able to get hold of them to give them final meter readings since the 15/1/2021 via phone or email and their chat is constantly offline. I finally got hold of my existing supplier and they have no record of a switchover being requested (checked via the national database)

I rang UP and for once was able to speak to someone. I had clicked on the link for renewal and told the advisor their direct debit amounts had been the minimum for 9 months so I had a debit of £64.72 to clear.  She gave me details of their account and said I had been transferred to their Sapphire account, being at the yearend of supply.
She then said she would advise me to take their cheaper tariff: Ruby.  She was very reasonable and offered to sign me on to Ruby whose tariff was £52; I said I'd prefer to pay £60 to which course she agreed (I thought it best to agree) and I have been sent the contract giving me 14 days to change my mind.
I really want to know whether other customers of UP have been getting their sizeable credit amounts refunded.

  • Something is going on with Utility Point but hard to say what.  I signed over on 31 December 2020 and have had two failed switches yet they have taken money from my account.  If you search the web a lot of people are owed money by Utility Point including myself now - two direct debits and no supply! Everyone needs to stick together on this.  Ive just joined Facebook Group "Utility Point Owes Me a Refund".  There is also another post on here somewhere where I have seen people owed ove £500.

We initiated a switch in November 2020 and this was completed early December 2020. A total of 3 direct debits have been taken and 4 meter readings provided online. The "Your Usage" chart shows empty and no bill has been generated yet (was looking to see what effect working from home as a household had and if our usage had shifted).
Interesting line in this weeks Guardian post that "Utility Point is attracting far too many emails like this" https://www.theguardian.com/money/2021/feb/22/utility-point-owes-me-200-but-just-wont-give-it-back
If they are in trouble they may be in a bit of a limbo state, not quite in administration but been close to that point whilst at the same time having rather sound forecasts that pull them away.
I checked and credit with utilities is protected so at least that is less to worry about.
If your account is in credit. If your account is in credit your money is protected, unless you’re a small business customer. Your new supplier will tell you how you’ll be paid back. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/problems-with-your-energy-supply/your-energy-supplier-has-gone-bust/

As an update to the above we have been contacted by email saying they have "not received any meter technical details for your electricity account from your previous supplier which means we are unable to produce statements on your account."
They are asking for a photo of the meter (seems reasonable) as well as providing one in 1 weeks time (which I don't fully understand the purpose of).
Before proceeding is there anything nefarious we should be aware about before supplying the pictures?

I wonder if they are going to estimate your usage up to now from one weeks figures. Sounds odd though.

I've just moved to them as of yesterday so they are still in business. I don't mind if they fail as I'm already wondering if I've made a mistake.
