  • Given the sharply defined shape of the stain on the ceiling, wonder if there is a rain leak above?

    nope.. got a few roofer mates they checked it
  • I would try leaving the upstairs window open a bit then open your flat door and see if you get the same condensation on the glass.  You get better ventilation with a through draft.
    It always open a  bit same as the vent always open..
  • Thank everyone, thou.. i going to put forward to the owners to get the side windows replace by the doors so they can be opened..
    Heating not an issues to be honet over £1500 goes in the pot a year.. i will also put it on a timer, problem is the hall way is open to 1st floor so the heat will mainly got to that floor.
    So will try the window approch

    The solution to may mold issues can be;
    Heating the area to at least 14C.
    Investing in a dehumidifier powerful enough for the whole area, and leaving it on(it'll switch off when humidity is low)
    Venting area for about an hour per day.

    Had bad mold in the bay window area of a semi, which is a common issue.  Very much decreased by following the above.
  • Might sound like a strange idea but would putting in some extractor fans (bathroom style ones) help? In the long run will probably be cheaper than heating?

    If you're already ventilating the area, and it hasn't worked, why do you think adding more ventilation will somehow work?

    How about before spending £££ on more windows, try spending £ on a dehumidifier and see if that works

    Because people on here saying it not enough ventualtion.. even when i said in the orignal post. A dehumidifer is fine.. we need to get a plug socket installed.. as none in there.

    Will the dehumidifier work even with no heating and on a freezing cold day..?

    The type that use a dessiccant will work at low temperatures, but not the refridgerant type.

    Can you just rig up an extension lead initially just to see if it works?

    If the area is below 14C, that's one reason you are getting mold!  Its really bad for peoples health, you need to heat the area.  There's no way to save on this.  Heat, vent and dehumidifier.
