I disagree with the OP, I think this makes the card more secure, as the card number etc will not be displayed in normal usage, i.e. contactless or chip/pin. If the scammer has physical access to the card, having the information on one or two sides doesn't really make a lot of difference.

I've just received my replacement Halifax card, and it's of the design described in this thread. I prefer flat cards to embossed ones, and I'm looking forward to all my cards being flat.
Strange that none of the documentation sent with the card suggested the card had to be signed on the back. There is clearly a signature strip there, which I put my signature on because it was fairly obvious I should do so, but nothing enclosed with the card suggested I needed to. I just found it odd.

Just received a replacement MBNA credit card two weeks ago still in the old format, no cut out, card number, dates and name embossed on the front, CCV on strip on the back plus paper work telling me to sign card before use.

Just received a replacement Credit Card from Lloyds, and it's the old-fashioned embossed type.
The back of the card says "not valid unless signed" in very small print, over the rear of the embossed numbers and hence almost illegible, but again none of the paperwork that came with the card says that the card needs to be signed. You'd think they'd make this clearer, given that an unsigned card is not technically valid.
