SCS Deliveries

I am trying to find where I stand with regards to delivery of two recliner chairs I ordered from SCS. I placed the order in one of their stores on the 24/08/20 and was given an estimated delivery date of 20/11/20. This then changed to the 30/11/20, which was fine as we expected the date to change a little. We then had an email saying the date would now be after Christmas on 04/01/21 because of delays being caused by covid which was disappointing but understandable. This was followed up with a phone call apologising for the delay and softening the blow by returning the £69 delivery fee once delivery had been effected. I phoned customer services on 02/01/21 as I hadn't had any delivery details. I was told that they didnt have a date of the 4th, they only had the 27/01/21 on their system and on 07/01/21 I received an email to this effect. The emails had stated that the delay was caused by a lack of foam worldwide that was used in making the chairs and beds (that it was the same as that used in masks). I have since received another email moving the date from the 27/01/21 to 24/02/21, now 6 months after we ordered and this time saying it was due to staff shortages among suppliers across the globe. Our old furniture that it was replacing has long since given up on us (why we ordered new ones in the first place) and are luckily using an old sofa loaned to us. What makes matters worse is that friends of ours who ordered after us had theirs delivered 3 weeks ago which makes me question their excuses. What I am trying to find out is what are my rights and when does the delivery delay become an unacceptable delay?

Cancel the order if they can not deliver .
  • Hi that's something we did consider but having already paid and now so far down the line, we aren't sure where our rights lie. Their terms and conditions (as you'd expect) are never very clear and mentions "not responsible in the event of endemics etc" so I'm not sure we would have that option.
