Installing a light in a terrace shared alleyway - do I have to agree with RWP neighbours?
Comments

My neighbours fitted one without telling anyone, on the wall of their property in a shared alley.
As I'm neither reclusive nor anti-social I appreciated it - makes it much easier to take my bins out.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

If all the users were in agreement - or unconcerned either way) is there even mileage in setting the PIR at the entrance so it lights up at the start? Even the potential of adding a couple of secondary lights at each end? Should be easy to run a cable along the corner of the wall/ceiling.Or could that complicate matters too much? If it's something you'd like, then test the water with others - they might be enthusiastic.(Mind you, you then have a dark alleyway coming from the other end... This is getting complicated :-) )
I'm writing off the top of my head there, but yeah I think we'll go along with something like that. I know the neighbour the other side would almost certainly be fine with it (the one who needs access for her back garden and bins), so it's just a case of what the woman who owns the property above the alley thinks I suppose
Don't think it being dark at the back end is too bad - that's the back garden with no access from the back and there are secured gates into all the gardens that can only be opened from the other side0 -
If she's slamming her door at odd hours will that bring the light on
I'm not saying that's a bad thing. She will be able to see what she's doing.
For the length of the alley would a floor level light be of use? Also you can make 'shades' for security lights so they don't beam in one specific direction but do in all others. I had one supplied with a PIR.I also used a £5 battery operated PIR in a porch area very sucessfully. You can angle them in any direction and they don't illuminate from above. I put them on a hook so they were easy to get down and change the batteries which is seldom. This was the oneSimilarBut there are loads from classey to bog standard if you search 'battery operated pir light' and up in a jiff.Just for goodness sake don't attach or suggest anything that impinges on her property. I think as long as you stick to your wall and shine no light in her door she can have nothing to complain about.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
