2 electricity meters

We have 2 electricity meters, one in the house which covers most of the energy we use, one we eventually found in a shed which clocks up about 10 to 15 units a month, we pay a daily standing charge on both. Is it possible to register each meter with a different energy supplier to get the best deal for each?

We have no gas.

What does the one in the shed supply?

Assume you are on E7 and have storage heater?

  • No we are not on E7, we have oil central heating.
it supplies some outside sheds, probably historic due to a previous owner using them for his work. We could not manage without electricity to them.

I don't see why you couldn't register with different suppliers, unless they have specific policies against such a thing.
Normally they just need the Meter Reference Number.
Is it really worth bothering with two meters?  There were two when I moved into my current house but I had one of them removed when I was re-wiring.  Depends on your circumstances I suppose.
  • They are too far apart.

Then go and compare and try and get a provider/tariff with a low standing charge, probably with higher unit rates though. For the shed meter.
You would have to do the sums as to what is worthwhile.

Also compare your house meter usage to get any better deals at the same  time.

What do you mean by 'too far apart'?
It's unlikely in a technical sense.  My meter is in an outbuilding and the cable to the consumer unit in the house is about 40m long.

About 100 meters, we did consult an electrician.

That is why I wanted to know if I could use 2 different companies.

You have 2 independent supplies, 2 different meter numbers. So go for it.

Is it farm building, just for lights?
200m cable run might be cheaper in long run?
    Or has electrician said impossible?

That's 99 meters too many, you'll only need one !
