I'd imagine the OP's within reach of Banham Zoo which specialises in monkeys and apes (always popular with kids). Don't know how much it charges for entry, though - might be pricey for 2 adults and 2 kids. (I went to Regents Park Zoo with a friend last year, and we paid upwards of £10 each - however I know one pays more in London for almost everything!)

It would cost over £35 for a family of 2 adults/2 children to go into Banham Zoo, likewise for Suffolk Wildlife Park, and I think is on a par with most entrance fees to similar attractions around the country :(

There's a couple of sites I found that may be of use to you ... Suffolk Attractions and Norfolk Attractions :)

Geocaching is a fun activity for all the family.

It is like treasure hunting but you get given a set of GPS co-ordinates and normally have to look for camoflagued lunch boxes hidden in woods or film canisters in cities.

You have to buy a GPS unit, and a basic model costs around £100. But apart from that it's free.

Our library/council swimming pool/Tourist Board/other local community places have free brochures listing what is on in our area during the year. So, each year, we become a "tourist" in our own town. My boys have learned so much from visiting local landmarks, learning about local history/culture; enjoying the events held (free) for locals and tourists alike.

Seriously, we often take our own location very much for granted and yet there is often a lot of things to do/see/enjoy and are free - not always advertised in the local paper or free newspapers either.

I lurve theatre, but to go costs a bomb these days, so we keep our eyes open for when local productions are on, the cost is minimal and it's a real hoot!
