New home. Storage heaters.

Options

I am moving into a house that has storage heaters. There is currently no gas connection, but I have had a quote for this.

I do meet the criteria for a free gas boiler installation. I have also read up about the Green Homes Grant.

Does anyone have any advice or experience on the best options to get rid of the storage heaters and get central heating etc installed under one of these schemes?

I don't have any experience or specific advice, other than if you can get a Green Homes Grant to install gas central heating, it will save you money, providing the installation of the gas supply is not excessive.

It would be worth asking if the Green Homes Grant can include the work to remove and dispose of the existing storage heaters. It is also worth asking if the radiators can be oversized to allow the condensing gas boiler to operate at a Delta T of 40 degrees C. This should be standard practice when installing a new system, but, just in case it is not, it would be as well to ask about this. This design choice will save you money. Have someone who is good with contracts read anything you need to sign in case there are any gotcha's. Make sure the contract guarantees you will get a warranty of at least 7 years with the boiler.  You will need to have the boiler serviced and Corrosion Inhibitor added to the system every year, so allow £100 a year or £8/month for this. Don't take out boiler cover, but do save £12/month for repairs and the eventual replacement of the boiler in 20 years time.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Just checking. Definitely mains gas? Not a tank/bottles of lpg in the garden?
Little odd for a house to have mains gas available and not be using it? But could be.
