Best time to get a new phone contract for a year old samsung or iphone?

I am looking for a new contract, not fussed about having the latest released phone, so happy to go with Iphone 11 or Samsung Galaxy S20. I would like to know when would be the best time to find good deals, as the new phones are not launched yet, but coming soon. When will the providers lower contract prices of these phones? Also, where to look for best deals, not bothered with any particular provider (currently with EE)?

Prices tend to drop when the new models are launched and sales consequently drop on the previous generation. Same as most electronic goods.

Most of the time it is cheaper to get the phone seperate to the contract.
