Rights with returns during lockdown

Before lockdown (December) my dad went to Moss Bros and found a suit jacket he liked but they didn’t have his size. They looked on the system and said they only had 4 left all in London stores which had been closed due to Tier 4. He placed the order with them and paid and they said when the store reopened they would retrieve and send to him. 

This month the jacket came available online but regular rather than short. He decided to order to see how it fit. It fit OK but sleeves were a bit long so he would like to hold out for the short to compare. However, the regular has a 30 day returns policy which will expire by the time lockdown is lifted and the short arrives. He emailed Moss Bros to enquire whether the 30 day policy can be extended. Afterall, it does say you can return to store but that isn’t an option. However, a few weeks later there is still no reply and they aren’t contactable by social media. Anyone know whether after 30 days the item definitely can’t be returned?

Pretty much all retailers are extending such periods. I doubt ultimately any would win at court if they argued you had to return while the stores were shut.

The order for the jacket he currently has was placed online and therefore the normal returns process for such orders would apply.

Plenty of options to return apart from to store.
I wouldn't think they will extend when it is possible to return it now.
