O/S Daily Wednesday 27 January 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, wet underfoot but air doesn't feel as cold.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pork escalopes with tomato pasta bake, mushrooms and sweetcorn. Tonight we'll be having fish - menfolk are having battered fish strips, chips and beans mine will be baked fish and veg.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad just got today - then time off. I have a few things I want to get done in the time I'm off.
Keep safe and well x

Morning
Quite a bit warmer today already I know that as I didn't feel the need to hug the boiler for an hour when I first got up. (well a girl has to get her hugs from somewhere
)
Yesterday got a bit messy after what was meant to be a quick call to chase mums vaccine. I asked if they had received her POA sent 2 weeks ago and of course thanks to our hugely expensive and unreliable mail service the answer was no. Lovely practice manager was happy to take a scanned version so that took a while....50 odd pages but at least it arrived. The practice manager who is obvs high detail then rang to say she had spotted a mistake. Ive been using it since 2015 and she was the only one to spot it. Anyway long story short the solicitor who prepared it had to contact the OPG and get a letter to say it was still valid. Ive never seen a solicitor move so fast so I suspect it worried them. All done now thankfully. Still no sign of her vaccine though annoying when much younger people are now being offered it but its going to be a game of patience I guess.
Chilli was good last night and plenty left over so rinse and repeat tonight. No real plans just the usual
Ruby hope your appointment went well and your brother is getting some pain relief x
Have a good day all14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I don't believe it! No snow or frost this morning for the first time in weeks and weeks. And the temp is set to leap up to 6 deg later. What a debacle NELS but at least it's getting sorted now. I hope DM isn't waiting too long for her vaccine. The age groups being called all seem a bit higgledy piggledy from one area to another.
Yesterday I carried on where I left off with all Bob's clothes. Trousers went in one bag, shoes in another, shirts and t-shirts in one suitcase and sweaters etc in another. Coats now hanging in the back wardrobe. Now I have done that I don't know what I am doing with them all and what can I do with what looks like 1,000 coat hangers? As expected there were memories galore in the process some happy and some sad.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. I hope your DB got the help he needs RUBY. Thinking of MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's warmer here as well, just damp.Just as well the practice manager spotted the error in the POA Nels, I suppose it could have led to complications. Hope Mum gets her vaccine soon.Ruby, I hope your dressing change was all right and you are healing, also hoping that your DB has now got some pain relief.Just tidying going on today, we shampooed 3 carpets yesterday using DD's machine - it's much easier than our old V*x carpet thing.Just can't understand how the carpets get so dirty, there's only 2 of us and for the best part of a year there's been no one else here.Anyway, we'll finish squaring up today. When the weather is better I think I'll wash the sitting room curtains, they're quite large, from the bay window, so I don't want them draped round the house drying.Hope everyone has a good day - take care folks12

Morning All
Cold, damp and dreary this morning, hope it's not icy as I intend to go for a long walk today. Yesterday was so icy I struggled to get down the drive to open the gates, it was sheet ice. I was going to the post box before I went to work but wasn't sure I would make it, thankfully I met my lovely neighbour who was taking their puppy for a skate and he went along for me.
Thanks for the well wishes, my knee is now better (apart from the scab!), even kneeling is ok.
What an eagle eyed practice manager Nelski, good it's sorted and hope your DM gets the vaccine soon.
Gers - Hope your DM is feeling better today, could the vaccine have made her out of sorts?
What a hard job for you TA but you can hold on to those lovely memories.
Thining of you Marie.
Hope your DB has some pain relief Ruby and you're continuing to heal, take care of yourself.
How's your DD dp1?
I've sorted the shelves so the halogen cooker now fits, I don't like having much on the work surfaces and it was annoying me! I tried it last night and it's so quiet compared to the old one!
Hopefully I'll get a coal delivery today, I've completely run out. I ordered a coal bunker yesterday, something I really didn't want in the garden but needs must.
Right, on with the day, hugs to those in need, take care. XX

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Much warmer today here, though there is still a lot of snow on the ground. I think it might melt as the day goes on.
Excitement of the day is waiting for a handyman to come and fix a leak and also do something to the shower, the water is not heating up properly. And various bits and bobs being delivered. Mr M delivered the shopping last night but minus milk and kitchen roll, both of which we can get locally and I meant to cancel the kitchen roll anyway.
Yesterday my son called me to come to the kitchen URGENTLY. I thought he might have hurt himself but it was to see a black squirrel only it wasn't, it was a slightly darker grey one and in a patch of shadow. So he has not yet beaten his personal best at spotting unusual beasts in the garden, he was the one to spot the green woodpecker.
TA that will have been hard and well done for braving it.
Nelski, hope this week is easier.
Ruby, hope your DB has been given some pain relief.
Has anyone heard from MM?
Everyone else, you are in my thoughts as we plod through this long, lonely winter.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning All
A bit of a down day again for me today - no reason for it as usual chores are done and working from home all day with no meetings so actually I should be happy with that! I feel in a bit of a rut really - not where I imagined or would like to be at this point in my life but also nothing I can really do about it as I look after my DF and wouldn't change that for the world as hard as it is!
So, need to pull myself together and get on with things! I will change and wash one bed then get on with my work. I feel a bit better if I have actually done something productive!
Turkey escalope with rice and veg for lunch and porridge already eaten - not sure about this evening yet - could be toast again!
I'm thinking of all of you going through hard times and I know my life is a dream compared to what some people are going through so I am very grateful if a little fed up today!

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I haven't posted for a few days as I've had nothing to say, I still haven't!
Have a good day everyone.

Morning folks. That's alarming Nelski, well done that practice manager. Will you have to resubmit the document to all the other organisations?Great work TA, it's a tough job though it can bring great memories back. I can still 'see' my DM wearing a beautiful taffeta skirt she had made and hand painted with flowers. The skirts made a noise as she knelt down to kiss me goodbye before she swept out to a social do of some sort. These things keep us warm.Ruby - I hope that your brother is now more comfortable. My ratatouille turned out well even though I went far too light on the garlic, it definitely needs more but it's too late. There's a huge amount stuffed in the fridge, I'm looking forward to feasting in it.DM's present discomfort isn't a side effect of the vaccine, she regularly has bouts of stomach problems which have plagued her for many years. Last night the minuscule portion of soup was well tolerated so things look better.Today I'm going to make the Mexican Tortilla Bake, promise. 😃 Apart from that I'll be hanging around again. Whilst there's not any ice or snow outside it's still not very inviting. The park, which is right outside the front door, is rammed with people. The part here has a narrow walkway along the river until it opens out, I can see how busy it is, especially as large parts have been blocked off by Scottish Water doing massive work on the river.Enough meandering around my thoughts! I hope that we can all remain positive. Happy Wednesday to all.11

The solicitor got a letter from the OPG to say it was all above board so that could be sent on if there are any problems so to be honest I wont prompt them to look its a very small error and as the OPG said does not change its validity and that will do for meGers said:That's alarming Nelski, well done that practice manager.
