Or they could offer you an alternative role.

Do you want to leave earlier than the end of your notice period (eg to begin a new job elsewhere)?

Redundancy can be withdrawn right upto last day.
    Same job or suitable alternative.

You can still leave on that day without redundancy

If you want to leave early you can use counter notice but there are rules that need to be considered carefully.

Then negotiate your exit terms to reflect this.

Employers are expected to try and avoid redundancy situations wherever possible, so attempts to keep you in work for as long as possible would hardly be the wrong thing to do. In fact if there is work for you to do, then it can be argued your job is not redundant. There is nothing to stop you finding another job and leaving before your final day, but you may forfeit your redundancy pay.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Not completely correct but yes re potentially losing redundancy pay if they offer you SAE (including your same role) before you leave and you unreasonably refuse it.
