Deed of Covenant

I am in the process of buying a leasehold flat. My solicitor has asked me to sign the deed of covenant. However, I have not yet seen the lease. Is it normal practice to sign before having read it ? I would appreciate some help. Many thanks.

You can hang on to the deed until you've read the lease if you want to.
But your solicitor won't proceed with exchanging contracts until you instruct them to. It might save a bit of time if your solicitor has all the signed documents ready in advance.
So if you sign and return the deed, and when you eventually read the lease and you're unhappy with it, you can simply tell your solicitor not to proceed (even though you've signed the deed).
