AFAIK you can also buy them second hand on the likes of eBay. My past experience of sorting this out has been, just buy one for the network your phone is on (or actual carrier for MVNOs like GiffGaff and EE) and just plug it in.

Thank you glennevis. EE are no longer offering signal boxes - thy say that I should get a phone that has a built-in booster.
And to continue to Fairphone saga - in response to complaints they are beta-testing getting Android 9 for the FP2 which would enable some updates.0 -
