£1000 extra on my energy bills.

We were with isupply but we were moved over to EDF. When we moved over they transferred almost a £1000 of unpaid bills we didn't know about. We have always paid by direct debit so isupply could have always just taken the correct amount monthly. I don't know how this huge debt was allowed to mount up. And apparently I can't now contact them anyway because they have gone out of business. Looking at my bills yes they were lower than normal but I'm with a company that switches you for the best deal so we just thought it was that. Now edf have been taking almost £400 a month for energy bills and its drained my bank account. Is there anything I can do here? Many Thanks

Probably better you ask on the utilities board than here.1

As above no Consumer Rights .Do you not take frequent meter readings as this is usually the root of debt .1

If you used the energy, you owe the money I'm afraid. All you can do is ring EDF and see if you can agree some sort of payment plan to spread the excess over a few extra months.1

Well the "huge" debt was allowed to mount up because you obviously haven't bothered checking your energy bills to see how much they were or if they were correct. You can't really be surprised that you just completely ignored them all and then expect it all to be fine.0 -
Surely if EDF have already taken at least two monthly payments of £400 and the debt is £1000, you haven't got more than a month or two more on that payment rate before the account is back in balance (assuming the £400 is also covering current energy use).0
