Hi all
My job is being made redundant and it’s my last day on Friday, and will need to give back my company laptop.
My job is being made redundant and it’s my last day on Friday, and will need to give back my company laptop.
Never had to buy one before can anyone recommend a good one please?
Ideally no more than £500-£600, unless I won’t get anything decent for that budget?
Don’t need it for gaming just email, internet and Microsoft Office. Have lots of photos so good storage would be good.
Company one is a HP Elitebook but that’s probably out of my budget

Hi,a quick google found this, how does it compare?0

Have a look on the Del outlet site or check ebay for refurbished business machines. Not a great time to be buying a laptop what with them buying in short supply due to everyone working from home and home schooling.

What's current screen size and resolution. Ideally you'll want to match both.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

^^ 14", 1920 x 1080 display, £666 including VAT.
If that looks too expensive, consider buying refurbished from a reputable eBay seller.
Avoid the Inspiron/Vostro ranges and the 3000 series Latitude - you can get the same spec but the build quality isn't there.

Is there a reason why you picked that device over the others available there? It's older and has just an 8th Gen CPU; so just wondering why you chose that one.
Maybe some inside knowledge?
Aaaah...I think because you didn't take into account the 10% discount and did not want to go over budget.

And no it didn't apply to my last order because that was my second purchase in the last year.
I recommended that machine because it is the cheapest minimum spec (i5/8GB/256GB SSD/1920 x 1080 display) machine I can vouch for, when sorting what is available by price.
Recommendation based on build quality and spec. I did ellude to the same spec being available for less but in a lower quality package. I think it is better to spend a bit more and in return get a laptop that can stand up to a bit more abuse + won't suffer from plastic hinge lugs disintegrating over time.
Inspirons - friend supplied his staff with them and had a high failure rate in the first year
Vostro - plastic chassis
Latitude 3000 series - plastic chassis (the 2-in-1s are okay)
Latitude 5000 series - aluminium chassis, much better keyboard, trackpad and finish overall
There is a 10th gen here which is slightly more expensive, but probably worth extra:

Quite possible that the OP is used to having a backlit keyboard.
There should be a sticky up to guide anyone asking a question to post full details of the device in question. Ridiculous to have to go through the specs with the OP one by one.
That way it's easier for us to run a comparison with her current laptop.
Worth mentioning that there are a few 10th Gen Dell Latitude 14 5410 on eBay, from £500. Dodgy sellers? Possibly. Plus one really needs to go through the spec with them as their descriptions are cursory.
