This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, cold and very frosty start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work also. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was oven braised chicken thighs, LO mash, veg, LO yorkshires and gravy. Tonight we'll be having escalopes with pasta bake.
Yesterday work was quite busy again so that made the day pass quickly. We'll see what today brings. I got the time time off next week I requested, so I've just got to work today and tomorrow then I'm off.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.More frost this morning, but we've had no snow.I started a search for "The Button" yesterday, looked in my sewing boxes, I've got 3, and loads of other places, and then decided to do what Bella suggested, leave it and I would find it eventually. Dh then found it in a china bowl on the dresser! So, search over, until I lose something else in the house.Nels, it's good to see you posting, I've been thinking about you.Ruby I'm glad DB has consented to see someone about pain relief, it's a sad distressing time for you all.Hope your knee is getting better Camelot, where you fell on it.DP1 hope your DD feels better soon.Snoozer, hope you've got plenty of recipes for using butternut squash, you'll be all squashed out, must admit it's not a vegetable I'm paricularly fond of. I've made soup with it combining with other stuff and it was ok, but I don't go bald headed for it if you know what I mean.I can understand that you find inputting your shopping order on a phone frustrating, it would drive me mad.My Morries order came yesterday and they'd sent a tin of new potatoes instead of a bag, but I'll use them in something.Nowt happening here today, I'll just bumble round the house.Thinking of our poorly people and those struggling with life generally.Take care folks17

Morning all
Cold and frosty here we are off to the hosp for a dressing change this morning so will have to scrape the car before we go. I had a terrible night and tossed and turned most of the night I think I got a couple of hours sleep, I will need a nana nap later for sure.
The hospice nurse phoned me back yesterday and we arranged for her to go out and see my DB this morning at 9.30 she said she can prescribe meds so anything he needs can be got today and hopefully start to make him more comfortable, he asked me to get him some milkshakes yesterday so at least he is getting something.
Nice easy dinner tonight of hot dogs in buns with fried onions and a corn on the cob on the side nice easy dinner which is what I need after last night !!
Im hoping this will be the last dressing change for a while and that he signs me off as ok to drive now, my car will forget how to do anything otherwise !
Have good days all and take care xx

Morning All
Not too cold this morning but very damp, work yesterday was absolutely freezing, my feet were like blocks of ice. The heating is off all weekend so it takes days to get it back up to temperature.
I took the little one for a walk around the block after work in her new boots - we had to inspect every shrub and twig along the way so it was slow going! We did meet a beautiful little puppy out for the first time, little one stood stock still even when it licked her hands and didn't make a sound until it had gone then she kept shouting goodbye!
Called to collect the halogen oven which is slightly bigger than the last one so doesn't fit on the shelf - I may have to have a little sort out of the kitchen tomorrow.
Hoping your DB has some pain relief Ruby, such a hard time for you all.
Have a good day, take care. XX15 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A cold and frosty start here too and still some snow lying where yesterday's sun didn't reach it. Today's forecast is sleet. How lovely (not)
Well I got THE phone call yesterday asking me to attend on Saturday for my Covid jab. So there are benefits in being aged and vulnerable after all - it gets you nearer the top of the vaccine queue! DS is taking me for the 8.32 (!!) appointment.
It's 2 years and almost 4 months since I lost my lovely Bob and all his stuff has been in his wardrobe ever since. Pre-Covid DS said when I felt ready to sort his stuff out he would be with me but then, of course, all the lockdowns started and he wasn't allowed in the house. With no end in sight of them ending soon I braced myself to look in his wardrobe yesterday. Then started emptying pockets of hankies and Everton mints - he never left the house without either! There were so many memories in that wardrobe but I had made a start and for me that was a big step. And so many new and unworn shirts and sweaters the kids had bought him but he preferred to live in his old and comfy clothes! Now I have started I may carry on today knowing there will still be more tears and smiles in store.
NELS it's good to have you back with us and I hope better times are in store soon. RUBY I'm so glad your DB has agreed to discuss pain relief it will make such a difference. Dp1 fingers crossed your DD is soon on the mend. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Morning all
Usual tidy/hoover around done this morning and I'm just having a coffee. I'm working at home but have a few meetings today so I know getting any actual work done is unlikely! I tend to struggle to get things done when I know I have another meeting in a little while. Still there's always tomorrow and nothing is urgent.
Back on the porridge with a banana for breakfast and I have quiche with cabbage for lunch and will find some other veg to go with that. I'm struggling with my "tea" - my light snack of an evening has ended up really being toast and crisps most nights - not awful but not really the best option and really just me being lazy! Will have to have a think about that.
Just 1 load of washing to be done today - I do find it useful to be able to do things like that whilst working at home. No other chores to be done today so I can focus on work.
TA - great news about the jab! I remember after my DM passed away, I actually cleared all her stuff out within a week (I wanted to get it done quickly as I knew it would be painful for my DF to have to do it). It was difficult but I know it wouldn't be any easier now all these years later. Any of her belongings that I have come across in the house since then I have kept as I cannot bear to part with them! I hope you have more smiles than tears today.
Camelot - I think we could all do with slowing down and inspecting the twigs every now and again!
Have a good day all

Morning folks. After a midnight comfort break I didn't stir until 10 minutes ago, it's really annoying that the lovely dream I was having has gone from my memory already.Ruby - that's such good news, a little glimmer at least.TA - the memories don't leave you when the clothes go. I've learnt that memories live in my heart and not in 'things'. My beloved Dad left very little behind, he wasn't one for having more than strictly necessary. Harking back to his life as a regular in the army he only had what could be easily packed. I've only got his battered pewter pint pot which was hanging up in his favourite watering hole! My heart is still full of him.DM's COVID jag was swift and painless. The charge nurse had to spend more time filling out forms and asking me questions than the procedure took. It's a relief that the first one is done. I'm about two levels down the priority list.Typically my supermarket delivery arrived five minutes after the nurse appeared. At least it was all done at once. Today I have yet more to go to the tip. There's lots of old storage boxes and glass jars. I'm not sure what to do with the numerous old biscuit and chocolate tins, they seem too pretty to go in the tip but I don't want to keep them. The weather is damp, no frost is a good thing so I'll head soon.Ritual hugs all round. Happy Tuesday to all.13

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Another bitterly cold morning, the snow is still with us, inches deep but packed into solid ice in places so pretty lethal for me as I can fall over a shadow without trying at all. I don't have any reason to go out so I'll stay here. Mr M is delivering our shopping this evening, that will be interesting if there are substitutions.
Ruby I'm glad your DB is going to discuss pain management, and hope that he can be more comfortable.
dp1 hope your DD is much better soon.
TA, that must be a very hard thing to do.
Nelski, hope your week is better than the previous one. I had a couple of very down days last week but not so much this week. Nothing has changed maybe just generalised, infectious angst.
I must go and put out second breakfast for the birds because that squirrel has scoffed the first lot.
Hope that today is a kind day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -
Morning everyone
I woke late this morning and seem to be on a go slow so need to get moving and liven myself up a bit!
Had a bit of a fed-up day yesterday, not for any particular reason but will have to keep myself a bit busier today.
I think I have little one for the afternoon so that will liven me up a bit!
If not I'll give my friend a ring - she can talk for Britain!
Hope everyone has a good day13 -
Morning
Up early and boy it was cold again boiler hadn't come on so that took a bit of fiddling with to get some welcome heat in the room
Threw together a chilli in the slow cooker to brew all day so dinner will be that with some rice
Thanks for all the messages re my pity week. It was nothing to do with lockdown it was a year since my stroke and I realised how my life has changed for the worse but lets not go there again
Ruby so glad your brother is getting the help he needs and that you are recovering so well good luck with your dressing appointment
Scarlett well done on finding the button I hate losing things
TA Hope today wont be too tough and that the memories are all good
Gers why not sell the tins and use the money for a nice treat for you both I bet vintage tins will be very popular
Have a good day all

Morning all.
Scarlet I know exactly how you felt about your button. I'm in the middle of a similar search for a list of names and addresses. It has lived in the same drawer for about 12 years, but when I went to look at It last week, there it wasn't. I've searched the house (yes, including the Christmas stuff,) to no avail. I keep opening the drawer expecting it to have found its own way back there. So far no dice.
TA. Brave lady! This is possibly the last of the excruciatingly hard things you will have to do. It will possibly tear your soul to pieces, but you will be glad when you've done it. I remember packing up my beloved Dad's clothes and coming across his favourite old jumper. He wore it all the time and it was misshapen, bobbly and far from a thing of beauty. It must have been one of the last things Mum knitted for him before the dementia overtook her. I buried my face in it and it SMELT of him. That was my undoing.
You will have many moments like that. Know that we are all with you in spirit.
Nels, I don't know if you do hugs, but you are getting one anyway.
RedRuby, fingers crossed that your driving days are on their way back. It might be just the gleam in the darkness that you need. The hospice nurse is hopefully with you DB as I speak. Please let us know how it goes.
tryingtocutback, toast and crisps sounds fine to me. If it's what you like and it hits the spot there is nothing wrong with that. One of my lunches last week was a couple of weetabix and a choc ice. I didn't keel over and my hair didn't fall out.
Camelot, it's a few years since I had walks with a toddler, but I remember how every leaf and discarded bus ticket had to be examined. Later on every road name had to be gone through, trying to name the letters, and oh, the excitement if she found an M, the initial of her name.
Gers, I hate that feeling of wanting stuff cleared out, but thinking it's too good to just dump. Someone, somewhere would love those old tins, but how to find that person? Good luck!
AOD, I envy you your snow. Our local news jubilantly announced a "light dusting" of snow over some hills a few miles away. We rarely see anything so exciting down here.
dp, I have friends who can talk like that. Nothing to do with me of course. One friend used to go on so long I was forced to take the phone outside, ring my own front door bell and say brightly, "Must go. Someone at the door.
I bet the world and his wife has posted while I've been labouring over this. Have as good a day as possible.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.14
