Bathroom Refit Quote

We are looking to get our bathroom re-done. It is a larger than average bathroom, currently with a toilet, WHB and bath with mixer shower over bath.
We want to get the bath removed and have a large walk in shower installed in it’s place. The toilet and WHB will stay in the same place.
We have had a quote from 1 plumber so far which I think is extortionate. Although maybe I am ignorant? I have no idea what sort of price would be fair.
We have been quoted £5500 and this includes removal of current suite, plastering where required, minor building works, tile full room including floor. Price includes pipe work, tile grout and adhesive. It does not include the actual tiles and bath suite.
Does this quote seem fair? Or are we being massively ripped off?! We will obviously be getting other quotes.
Thanks in advance!

February 2017 we had our bathroom replaced and had the bath removed and replaced with a walk in shower. The bathroom walls were fully tiled so needed to be removed and the walls made good. We also had a wall built to enable the walk-in shower to be the direction we wanted. Our plumber charged us day rate at £150 capped at 10 days. The actual bathroom items I ordered and paid for and any of the additional things like lights and extractor, skip, plaster, plaster board, new joist (cause the ceiling fell through when the bath was ripped out) and grout the plumber bought out of a budget I left in cash about £800 (he put all the receipts in the envelope to show what had been purchased) but was slightly under. The only addition we needed was an electrician to fit the spotlights and the extractor fan. Altogether including the £800 I spent on tiles the whole room cost £4,500 fitted. I did order the bathroom suite off ebay as individual items along with the pvc boards for the ceiling which I think helped reduce the cost.0

You have been quoted a price for a job and it is up to you whether or not to accept that quote. Therefore you are not being ripped off, that would require that you do not end up with the product or service you have been quoted for.

Having mine done now at 5800
which included
removal of suite and disposal of all rubbish
plastering
Pipe work.
Tiling floor and walls and building in a niche.
Removing cupboard above the bulkhead
painting
New extractor fan
Moving the light switch to the outside wall
4 new spot lights
Replacing radiator with towel rail
Most quotes came in between 5500 and 6000
I only had to buy it on top of this the bathroom suite that I wanted and the tiles etc
