Gas Meter Door Lock

Hi, Just moved into a new home and I've noticed that the lock for the gas meter is broken. Obviously, when it's windy the door is swinging back and forth. I email my energy company to ask who is responsible, and they replied saying it was my responsibility to repair. Does this sound right?
Regards,

Yes. The box is yours to sort. Is it your standard wall mounted? What area do you live in?
The locks are around £5 and the door £15...ish1 -
Agreed. Only the meter belongs to the gas network company, not the box in which it is installed. Indeed, it's not even necessary to have a box at all, depending on where the meter is installed.
Spares are widely available online. Eg: https://www.meterboxesdirect.co.uk/meter-box-spares/meter-box-lock-lock-latch.html1 -
The meter doesn’t belong to the network either. It belongs to the gas supplier (BG/EON) etc...Mickey666 said:Agreed. Even thats not strictly true, for BG at least. BG rent the meters and charge the owner to fit them.jefaz07 said:
