Price increase unnannounced

Hi everyone!

I've had a price increase for an annual subscription [web hosting] go up without warning.  When I questioned it, I was told that they had promoted the change on both their social media channels and on their website.  However, I don't follow them on social media and there's no reason for me to ever look on their website.  I feel I should have been told in advance [with notice] via email.

Can anyone help me with my rights here?  Should I have been told directly in advance?  And also, can I ask for a refund and go elsewhere now I've paid the money?

Thank you!

Look to the terms and conditions of the service when you signed up .
That is possibly where they say  we reserve the right to increase prices .
UK Consumer Rights will depend if this is a UK company or not /Not then its the laws of relevant country .
  • Thanks so much.  It is a company based in Malta. I will check the contract.  If they reserve the right to increase prices, do I still get the cooling off period ie. can I cancel now?

That will depend on a combination of the T&Cs and Maltese consumer rights law.

Under UK law you'd have no statutory cooling off period as that ends when the service starts and presumably you've renewed and your website has continued to be hosted since the renewal. Their T&Cs however may be more generous and have its own cooling off period.

And "consumer rights" might be a red herring anyway unless the OP is a consumer...

Yes OP needs to check T&C of contract ( mine has the right to increase prices ).
    Then check Maltese laws .
