Letter of administration

Options
I applied for a letter of administration for my granddaughter's estate as her mum was not up to do so, though I did put both parents down on the paperwork, my application was refused but after months the letter of administration has been granted - I did an online probe, it went online 29th December but information was not available to access  until the 19th January 2021, however no paperwork has been received by my daughter - how long would it take to receive?  the original application was made in August - I don't know what to do next, my daughter is still distraught at the death of my granddaughter in May, I had opened a bank account in advance to deal with it all, but assume these will now have to be scrapped and it will all have to be set up again (my granddaughter had cancer, and passed aged 20) we never seem to get any further forward

The Trust was presumably a bare trust so that your late granddaughter was the beneficial owner of the funds and therefore they fell into her estate.

It appears that her parents have been granted Letters of Administration and they therefore have the authority to deal with their daughter's estate.

Assuming that  she was unmarried and without children, her estate now belongs to her  parents in equal shares.

They may now request the Trustees to release the funds to them.

  • They haven't received the paperwork, I don't know how long it takes, or if it has been lost in the post, but nothing received

    Possibly a Covid related delay?

The documents may not yet have been posted or perhaps  are held up in the post?

Perhaps your granddaughter's father could male a telephone enquiry if they have not arrived by the end of the month?
