  • I have some sympathy with you OP but EJ weren’t wrong when they said if the flight went ahead and you couldn’t travel for whatever reason you would lose your money. No matter how much you felt the flights would be cancelled it was very changeable. The people who panicked, requested a voucher and those who were prepared to wait, and take a chance,  got their refund.  It is not a criticism, just fact.

I would have thought, however, that no longer flying to the destination is a significant enough change to warrant a refund but obviously if they refuse,  you are pretty limited to what you can do other than take it to court to rule.  This would no doubt be a lengthy procedure without any clear indication who would win so probably not worth it. If it was me I would look for flights to somewhere else when we are able to.

The advice given on the main MSE article back then and still today is not to cancel and wait to see if they cancel first. Did they actually state that the voucher needed to be requested x days before travel date, were you given a timescale that you needed to respond by or the voucher offer would be withdrawn?
For the second cancellation, refunding to the same form of payment as used to book the flight is common, you pay by card you get a refund to the card, you pay by voucher you get a voucher back.
There are quite a few threads from people that maybe jumped the gun and cancelled rather than waiting to see what happened but I don't recall any reports of refunds subsequently being issued in that instance.
