Old style licence to photo licence

Options
Hi, I'd like my mum to update her driving licence as she needs some photo id, I'm a bit confused about the documentation required though, as she has no passport.
Thanks for any help, Mark

Its so much easier with a valid Passport:

You can use a UK birth, adoption or naturalisation certificate, but you must send it with one of the following:

    • National Insurance card or a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showing your National Insurance number
    • photocopy of the front page of a benefits book or an original benefits claim letter
    • P45, P60 or pay slip
    • marriage certificate or divorce papers (decree nisi or absolute)
    • a gender recognition certificate
    • college or university union card, education certificate or PASS proof of age card (issued after June 2014)

Assuming the 1984 in your username is your year of birth, then even if she wasn't doing it voluntarily, she'd have to soon enough anyway. Her entitlement to drive will expire at her 70th birthday, and every few years thereafter - and she'd get a photocard on renewal.

This gov.uk page walks her through what she needs...
    https://www.gov.uk/exchange-paper-driving-licence#other-ways-to-apply
https://www.gov.uk/id-for-driving-licence - the section entitled "If you do not have a UK passport" is mis-named, it should be "If you have a non-UK passport". Go further down the page.

Mum could be in her 50s you need to be carful how you tread.

Except that it's much harder to get a passport (from scratch) than it is to get a driving licence without a passport!
