Can you help me identify this tool?

My son has discovered this tool found under the bonnet of his VW Golf.  The "blade" part was slightly wedged but we are concerned that if dislodged whilst driving it could have damaged the engine.

Two possible clues:

a. Back in September the car was serviced by a main VW dealer.  My son had already found a screwdriver left on the passenger seat by presumably a mechanic from the garage when collecting the car.  He handed it back to the garage. Could this be another misplaced VW garage tool?

b. Following a stone chipped and cracked front window my son had AutoGlass come out and fit a new windscreen at the end of December.  Would this necessitate opening of the car bonnet and could this be a tool used to remove and fit a new windscreen?

Greatly appreciate any help from the expert Motoring forum MSE's.   Thanks in advance.

Yes, a windscreen change will certainly have had the bonnet open - the trim at the base of the screen will need removing to get to the base of the screen.

I'd suspect it's one of Autoglass's. Probably something for releasing trim clips.

I very much doubt it was left there deliberately, and the guy was probably kicking himself next time he needed it. Not a lot of point in shouting at them, and he has no loss... Looking at the size of it, there's no way that'd be getting anywhere it shouldn't.

Yes, it's part of a windscreen removal kit.
