If £550 was the best part of a new one, it was a great price for a replacement especially if it also lasts 24 yearsSounds like it's too late for that:MidlandsGlory said:A repair quote was ludicrous and as its her birthday soon I have bought a new one which see loves.0 -
Yes I think so. It was her idea really as much as I try to persuade her otherwise, she still blames herself for it getting broken. Its lasted pretty good as the diamonds are stuck out and held by 4 tiny claws each. Its hard to persuade her that she doesn't need to give up the old ring.HampshireH said:Would it not just be nicer for her to keep it than to try and offset it against the cost of a new one?

I was truly blessed to get an amazing deal, a new 'sample' item in the exact design we wanted from a highly regarded supplier.1 -

Perhaps will just keep it for now.
Well if it was slightly cheaper to repair the existing one then personally i would have gone for that because of the sentimental value of having it for 24 years. To me it's not something that can be replaced because the value of the original one is when it was given and what it symbolised at the time, the new one is just an expensive birthday present.1 -
My jewellery is covered on our house ins, I had my engagement mended when I lost a diamond.0

I was remembering what we did for Mum, she had an engagement ring where the setting was destined to start wearing away from the start. It cost a lot, but we paid to have it repaired for their silver wedding anniversary, even though she could no longer wear it with her wedding ring (it would have worn away again almost immediately). She'd always felt it wasn't worth it, but I was glad we did.Tokmon said:
